Saturday Sniffles

Really. I've got a head-cold. I'm sniffling like nobodies business. Sneezing, too. Headache.

When I'm sick I have zero tolerance for crap. And Grandson's been full of it tonight. On my final nerve. All day long. Then again, he's been whinier than normal today. Spoiled, not getting his way with Daddy.

Gotta admire him for sticking to his guns (Married Son that is). He's getting the consistency thing down. Not perfect, but much better. However, this kid needs to be in bed. He was told that 9:30 was his bedtime. It's 9:38 now ... I'm counting the minutes before Son realizes it's past bedtime. But I'm staying out of it to the best of my ability by not asking him what time it is. He needs to learn to watch the clock, lol.

Gee, all I had to do was type that and Son says "bedtime Son" ... let the bawling begin.

Sorta like lighting a ciggie thirty seconds before the waitress brings you your food. Oy. Except the waitress doesn't throwing a shit-fit.

On the Alien front ... I don't know whether to be proud of her or angry ... ya, one extreme or the other, eh? First ... proud ... she's going back to school. She takes the entrance exam for the GED courses on Monday (yes, I'm babysitting). Then the GED courses and finally the exam. Yay!! She's already planning her college courses, too. She'll take the core courses first, while she figures out her major. She's also been going to a local church for assistance. They help her with clothes for herself and Butterball, food, furniture, and bills. She's seeking assistance for housing even. She's totally fed up with Bubba and his parents, not only how they treat her, but that they're showing their true colors lately. She's been told she'll be disowned if she doesn't do things their way (and theirs is not the brightest way to do things). I told her to hang in there, to keep kissing their butts until she has her plan not only in place but fully engaged. Don't piss off the "landlady" when you have no where else to go!!  She will be telling them all to bugger off, but much later than she had planned. I'm mixed about this. Heaven knows he's an idiot, but he IS her father. I never denied him access to his daughter. Yet, he pulls everything he has, and still I have yet to bad-mouth him in her presence. Now she's coming to me saying "Mom, why didn't you tell me what he's like?" Like it would have helped, it'd only have created undue stress. Neither of us needed that. But it's sad to think that his own daughter will not maintain contact after this is all over. He made his bed. I'm the one that gets to help her pick up the pieces.

On the "I'm angry" side ... she's been sneaking around seeing Loser again. Yeah. Can you believe it? Married Son's BIL was here the other day helping with some yard work. He leaves. He passes Loser hanging out down the street, sitting there on a parking curb (rocking back and forth no less). Wanting to double check to make sure he'd seen it right, the BIL walks around the block and past the spot again. Sure enough, it's Loser. Waiting for Alien to get what she had come here for and pick him up when she left. The BIL called Married Son, who in turn notifies me. I confronted her before she even had time to leave, and she LIED! "Oh, that's his cousin, they look identical". Nice try. Then she claims she's only interested in him seeing his child, and that she needs help with the cooking and cleaning. "Butterball is a high maintenance child, Mom". "No he's not. YOU cater to his every little whim. How come I can cook and clean and he's happily playing nearby the whole time? It's because won't put him down and let him explore. Get off your arse. Millions of women have to raise kids and do all the housework themselves ... including an outside the home job. They can do it, you're certainly smart enough to figure out how to do it, too."

I seriously think he fusses around her because she won't let him down to explore his surroundings.

And yes, with her I will say something. Partly because she asks, partly because she's at risk of losing him to the state if she doesn't learn to cook and clean and fend for herself. If the state knew Loser was anywhere near her or the baby ... even for a few minutes, let alone probably overnight ... all hell would break loose once again.

Now if she would (could?) only understand that an abusive relationship will never get better, no matter how many times he claims he'll change. Been there, done that. I'll carry the scars with me for the rest of my life. Scars that I used to teach my daughter that love does not come by way of a fist. I understand she's scared, and desperate, dammit, I was there too, only I was a little older (22 years old). I hung out another six years, and many beatings before I had the nerve to put an end to it. I didn't have the benefit of the domestic abuse laws that she does. Those laws weren't enacted until 1992, four years after I fled with the boys for our safety.

Keep her in your prayers, or thoughts, or meditations, or whatever you do, please.

There's more stuff to blog ... but I'm thinking of calling it a night. Brother Deere will be back again early tomorrow to finish clearing up the tree-fall damage ... like finally removing the blasted tree from the back yard. Ya, still there. Was supposed to be picked up by Barky Dog's friend over three weeks ago. Right. It's still there, so Brother is removing it tomorrow. He'll use it in his fireplace this winter. All 70 feet of it. I wonder how many cords of wood that makes? A lot. LOL! And all his.

And since my head feels like it's got a semi-truck (lorrie) parked on it, I'm seriously gonna shut this thing down and call it a night.

Hugs to ya'll!!

Ten Thoughts Tuesday.

Yipes, once again haven't blogged lately. It's not for a lack of material, either. Time? Nope. Had the time, too. Motivation. Yup, that's pretty much it. No motivation.

Besides, I liked doing the ten thoughts blogs, so I waited a whole week almost to blog. LOL.

So ... here we go ...

1) Gremlin sighting!! Big time. Starts with Single Son's coffee pot having flooding issues. To use it after a flood he'd have to use the hair dryer to dry the electronics. Yes, there's a blow dryer in my kitchen. Oy. Then the other day he's washing the pot, and breaks it. No problem, we have a few old coffee pots in storage. Three were eliminated (read thrown out) for various reasons. The only coffee maker to survive is one of those miniature four-cup things. He can't use it yet because he needs small filters, the ones we have are way too big (and leave grounds in the pot). He's reduced to what we're calling ghetto coffee ... he saved the filter basket from one of the trashed makers, puts coffee in it, places it on his over-sized coffee mug and pours boiling water over it. Strongest damned coffee I've ever tried. I don't recommend it for the casual coffee drinker. However, it works for off-duty cops who are seriously addicted to their cuppa.

2) Gremlin sighting number two ... Single Son again ... he was sitting at the dining room table talking to me when he leaned back ever so slightly on the vintage 1970s-era breuer chair and THUD! landed on his backside. It took me a few minutes to ask him if he was alright, and that was through my fit of hysterics. The chair is history.

3) Yesterday I went to my folks house to wash the floors, or that was the premise to get me to come over. I get there to find my chore chart has grown to include the front windows, weeding, placing a quilt over a door, putting sheets on the bed, wiping down cupboard doors, weeding and clipping Dad's finger nails. Dad managed to move at just the wrong moment, and I drew blood. I felt bad.

4) While making the bed my Mother was relaying a little story to me ... the night before I was there she had crawled into bed. She snuggles close to Dad and tells him "snookems, you can do anything you wish with my body tonight". Snookems replied "Got a match?"

Considering their 54th wedding anniversary is this coming Wednesday it makes me wonder will I ever find a love that special. Or that demented of a man to spend my old age with.

5) The electrical has finally been fixed from the tree falling. Brother Deere came over on Saturday to work on it. In less than five hours he was done. He'll be back this weekend to remove the tree debris that should have been gone by now. All I need to do now is call the electric company for an inspection, and of course, the phone company will still need to come out and fix the current squirrel issue.

6) And all the issues the squirrels cause here with the phone lines, I still *love* the furry little rodents. Go figure.

7) Question ... if early to bed makes for early to rise ... WHY would you insist a 5 year old get used to early (school) bedtimes if you as the parent are NOT going to rise early with said child. And I'm so not going to be the one to get the kid ready for school in the morning.

8) oh yeah ... LOL ... I don't own a scale. I threw it out years ago. Being able to weigh myself whenever I wanted was too depressing, and if it tipped up (as they tend to do) certain times of the month I really got more depressed. Now I only weigh myself either at the docs office or occasionally at my folks house. And that's just what I did yesterday. I'm down six pounds since last month. Yay! I'm not dieting technically, I just cut out unhealthy snacking. You won't find chips or other snacks around here (well, DIL has some, but I refuse to go into their cupboards). It's grab some fresh fruit when I wanna snack. And it's paying off.

9) The first week of no more unhealthy snacks was the worst. Craving salt all that time. But it was worth it. No more cravings. In fact, I "stole" a chip from Married Son the other night and it was way too salty for me! Now if I could give up my caffeine fix. I know ... eventually I will. But I've found that if I tackle one thing at a time I'm more likely to succeed. First was sweets ... then prepackaged easy make meals ... now salty foods .... maybe one day it will include ciggies. No comments needed about the ciggies, LOL, I know I need to quit .. I just have to be at that place where I want to quit first.

::looks around room:: to see if there's something that may trigger a tenth thought ... nope. Darnit ... always have problems with that last thought or two. I wonder why that is? LOL.

10) Oh ... I know ... I have a cousin (gee that's news?) ... she got me on this swagbucks thing. Search the internet and earn "swagbucks" for doing what I normally do anyway. It's only been two days and I've already earned over a hundred swagbucks. I'm looking at "buying" a tv for the living room or trading my swagbucks in for amazon.com gift cards. It'll take a lot of swagbucks, but hell, it's a FREE tv or stuff from amazon. They even pay postage. Pretty neat stuff. At first I was sort of skeptical (as I'm sure you are), but CK assures me that it's all on the up and up, she's cashed in her bucks for some great gifts. If you like this sort of thing, let me know, I'll send you a referral link through facebook. I get bonus swagbucks for referrals.

OMG It's Tuesday already?

Time sure does fly when you're having fun. If what you want to classify the days of my life as fun anyway.

Let's see ... Friday was my last blog entry ...

Saturday and Sunday found me again watching Butterball so Alien could finish cleaning the house. Yeah, it was that bad that it took her the best part of three days. She had her CPS (Children's Protective Services) inspection on Monday. She will not have Butterball taken from her for living in a filthy home. The social worker said that although it's not "perfect" it was much much better. And of course, the idiot, Bubba never showed up after many promises to help her clean the messes he left behind. Ya, the jerk left her stuck with his crap, and won't man up to his responsibility as her father. Oh wait ... he's an ass. I forget (not!) ...

Too bad she could have lost her child because of him and his shit. And so sad that she finally sees what he's really like.

So, that's behind us now. I just hope she keeps up with it now and doesn't let it slide back to the way it was. But, it'll be easier since Bubba isn't around to trash it anymore.

I have to admit having Grandson around for the marathon Butterball session was a blessing. He loves Butterball and really enjoyed playing with us. We all had a great time, tiring as it was on Gramma here. Grandson also seemed to really tone down his act a bit, he wasn't anywhere near as wild as he's been lately.

I can honestly say I was proud of him. And yes, I let him know! Many times, I let him know!!

We found out Grandson loves "chocolate pop" ... Diet Chocolate Creme Pie Soda to be exact. LOL. And he loves vanilla ice cream, too. So ... I promised him that because he was such an angel and Gramma's big helper that I'd make him a chocolate pop float. He loved it, until he got to the frothy part, then he hated it. "But that's okay, Gramma, I'll still finish all your ice cream". Um, no ... not at almost $5 a quart you won't!! I told him his mommy needs to buy him the cheap brand of ice cream if he wants to eat it out of a bowl, that Gramma's special diabetic ice cream is only for mixing with chocolate pop.

(On a side note ... he's not allowed sugar four hours before bedtime because he ends up having bad leg pains that last most of the night - not something I want him to go through, besides, he keeps the house up with his blood curdling screams)

Why do I even bother? Every time I try to introduce a new treat, food, or even activity he likes it for a minute or two then claims "I hate this".

So ... I'll enjoy my Chocolate Pop Floats alone.

On a funny note (see, I gotta get that in here somehow, right) ...

Grandson was eating grapes tonight. Something he never seems to hate, lol. He was showing me a huge grape, he called it a daddy grape. Then a tiny one, and I asked if that was a baby grape. A medium sized one he called "the five year old" grape. Ya, five like him - not too big, but not too small. It was a cute conversation. It evolved to ...
"When I'm big like that one (pointing to his father), I'll be your Daddy."
"No you can't be my daddy, I have a daddy. But one day you'll be daddy to your own child".
"But I don't want my own kid. I know, when Uncle JJ gets sick of his kid, I'll be his daddy. I love [that kid]."

This kid is gonna be the class clown, I tell ya. Oh wait ... that reminds me ... he's NOT enrolled in school and it starts in less than two weeks!!

I asked DIL what school he'd be going to (we have a choice of two different elementaries where we live). She said she didn't know, that she hadn't enrolled him yet. I told her she needs to get on that, that school starts very soon. "Oh, I know, but he doesn't even have his shots yet".

Hello? She's had five years to plan this kid going to school. I've given her every mailer that comes from the school district. They're set up to look like a newspaper, and the last two have had headlines of "Kindergarten Round-up Time". And we've procrastinated why? Oh wait ... I know why. She's busy with her facebook applications, texting all her friends and her vampire novels.

Hey, nothing wrong with any of the above, mind you. I love my facebook apps, too (not nearly as many apps as she does, though), and texting and reading (no vampire novels here, I prefer historical stories myself) ... but when you seem to ignore real life to indulge in said activities, there's a serious problem.

So ... wonder how long it'll be before she gets to it?

Tomorrow Married Son has some guy who saw the ad he posted for the large screen tv on craigslist coming over to look at it. Yay!! It'll be out of my house, hopefully.

Which means I have to do some cleaning. LOL. Not much, just vacuum where the couches were that we gave to Alien over the weekend. I don't think I ever moved those couches to clean under them. Oops!

That room is now big and empty minus a few bookcases and my craft corner. What ever will I do with all that space? I have no idea, but I'm not gonna let the Wrecking Crew turn it into their space (or storage, or a play room, or ... whatever).

8/13/10

Friday and I'm tired!

It's been one loooooong day 'round here.

Alien called me, waking me up this morning, could I watch the baby for about six or so hours?? Now, we know I said I wouldn't watch him until he could feed himself and was potty trained (hold a hamburger and flush the toilet) ... well, I just couldn't say no - not after she told me why. Seems someone (I'm thinking the Loser) called CPS (Children's Protective Service) and complained about the messes in that house. Most of it's her father, Bubba's crap, but she's contributed to it - dirty kitchen, dirty bathroom, laundry piled up, etc (a FlyLady's nightmare). She had an inspection yesterday and was told by the social worker that if it's not cleaned up by Monday afternoon that Butterball will be removed from the home.

She's panicked, to say the least. She's furious with Bubba. She's tried calling, he won't even answer the phone! Jackass!! His daughter, he fought so hard to turn her against me only to abandon her to some witch that hates Alien with a passion and actually forbids him from seeing his own daughter.

Karma is a bitch. He'll get his.

But in the meantime, she has a lot of work ahead of her. And The Knight in Rusy Armor bailed on her. Ya, can you believe it? Bailed. Was afraid to get too close to her and Butterball that he went running to his Grandmother's house. She claims it's not bailing, that he had reasons (family reunion she says) and will be back. Sorry, it's BAIL if you ask me ... he isn't there to help her when she needs it most.

And all I will do is watch the baby while she's cleaning. Oh, and I gave her some cleaners to use - stuff I'm allergic to, that I'd never have used anyway. I also gave her two couches that were in my family room ... she had to get rid of the dog-damaged sofa Bubba left behind when he moved out.

She's overwhelmed, needless to say. She's planning on talking to the social worker on Monday to see what assistance she may be able to get for housing. Heaven knows she needs to get out of that house - with Bubba's abandoned messes, his damned dogs he dumped on her, and gawd only knows what else that I'm not aware of.

I had Butterball for eight hours. He was good as gold. Ate just fine for me, tried to crawl away during diaper changes, tormented Spot (who sat there and took it!), slept (two naps no less), ate half a container of yogurt DIL fed him, only spit up once, didn't cry much ... but boy that Boy loves attention. When he wasn't sleeping he wanted to play with Gramma (and Grandson). Found out he loves pots and pans.

I told her I'd give her some of my furniture if she needs it, I have a lot of stuff here I rarely use ... and I told her she can take whatever she wants out of her sperm-donor's house ... and yes, she finally admitted that she declined her grandfather's offer to make her the legal owner (house needs way too much work for an 18 year old to do) ... but I told her since Bubba abandoned that house she should not feel guilty about taking whatever she needs out of it for herself. She agreed. She's hurt. Can't believe her father is acting this way.

Damn that man. Damn that he did this to her. Damn that I was right about it all, too. This is one time I wouldn't have had a problem with being wrong about that jackass that sadly I chosen to marry.

Like I said, karma is a bitch and he'll get his but good. I just hope he doesn't have to wait to see karma in action.

So ... on a cheerier note ...

The chore chart has been met with mixed emotions. Both Sons think it's a great idea, DIL hates it (gee, surprised?) and Grandson is still trying to figure it all out. But he's progressing rather nicely. Just tonight DIL didn't get to their dishes in a timely manner, and Grandson said "Mommy, if you want a smiley on your chore chart you better get to the dishes."

Bless his little heart!

Grandson had a great day today, too. Married Son let him play video games and he had fun playing with Butterball. Great day!! Up until just before bedtime when he actually wet his pants. DIL about went balistic! "I forgot to stop playing and go potty". Hey, he's 5 ... they sometimes get so wrapped up in what they're doing, they don't pay attention to nature's calls. It happens. Especially when you're playing a Cops and Robbers video game.

I'm one tired Gramma.

And I get to do it again tomorrow with Alien having half the house to still clean!

8/11/10

Blog comment (see Resolution blog) turned Blog Entry

Okay ... so I was telling Em that her suggestion of a child's chore chart just might be what we need to get the "kids" to cooperate.

I've had enough experience with chore charts, and I know they do work. Thanks to court ordered parenting classes that I had to take (and "graduate" from) during both of my divorces. Gotta love Friend of the Court and their interference - I mean, assistance.

Anyway ... the rest of the lengthy comment was going to be:

But I may not have to worry about chore charts IF my mother has her way. My folks own this house, I rent from them. Mom's back on her "sell the house" kick. And just how did the kick happen this time?

The tree that fell last week! That's how.

A little set up here (man, I just love these little gotta-set-the-story-up segments) ... The tree that fell did it in two segments, the first being a few years ago when half the tree fell. I told my mom then the tree needed to be removed, it was dead. And I told her over the next two years that it needed to be removed. Her response was always the same ... "that's what homeowners insurance is for". I'd tell her that I doubted they'd cover a tree that was already dead. But she insisted that it'd be covered.

Skip forward to two hours ago, when the insurance adjuster was here inspecting not only the damage, but the tree remains that still sit in my backyard. She's telling me they won't file a claim, as it's obviously a dead tree that should have been removed by the homeowner long ago, and it's cheaper to fix the neighbor's fence, replace his swing set and have the electrician do the repairs than it would be to file the claim and raise the insurance to an ungodly premium (since this is technically the fourth tree to fall in 14 years).

I then call Mom with the news and get an ear-full. How it's my fault the tree was dead, how it's my fault it wasn't removed. How dare I not have removed the evidence before the insurance adjuster arrived. All my fault! She then starts the "we're thinking about selling the house" stuff again.

Well, that would definitely solve the Wrecking Crew problem, wouldn't it? No need for chore charts if they have to find a place of their own. Oh, talking to Married Son after the call he's decided to apply for a "real job" as a tow truck driver. Get a regular weekly paycheck, in the hopes of having enough income to rent a place of their own. He's there now applying. Wish him luck!!

Single Son and I have talked, too. He's saying "no worries, Mom, we get a two bedroom apartment. Me and you and Spot (his cat obviously). No Wrecking Crew. We can survive living in a smaller place."

Yes, my son loves me and watches out for me. I think he likes having someone who will do the shopping and cooking ... and to be quiet honest, I like having a built in security guard around. LOL. It's still not an empty nest, but he stays pretty much to himself when he's home. Not that moving will happen soon. It could. But then, Mom's made threats before. So, we'll see.

Until then, I'm gonna go dig up my chore chart file. Yes, I kept it!! In the hopes that one day, my kids would seek my wisdom in such things to use with their children. Little did I suspect I might be using the file on grown-up kids.

Here's one I just found on the FlyLady website. Feel free to snag it if you are in need of chore charts ... notice it's bright primary colors to capture the child's attention!

And no I'm not changing the "before school" or "after school" headers. Let them complain I'm treating them like children!

Two blogs in one day! Call CNN!

It's been a long while since I last did a ten thoughts Tuesday, so here goes ...

Between the conversation with Chicken the other day, and a whispered quickie-conversation with Single Son today (we had to whisper, the Wrecking Crew was home, LOL) I decided to really look at the positive in my life. A Thanksgiving sort of thing - you know - those things I really truly am grateful for.

With that, I now start my ten thoughts ...

1) I am grateful for a healthy, loving family. Sure they get under my skin, as I'm sure I get under theirs at times. But we also are a very close-knit family.

2) I am grateful for a home that they can trash. Many in this economy are losing their homes.

3) I am grateful that I have my parents. Not only did they give me life, but they love and support me unconditionally.

4) I am grateful that I have loving, caring and supportive friends. Both online and in real life. I love each one dearly and can't imagine life without them.

5) I am grateful for my grandchildren. Yes, even spoiled brats. I'm even more grateful that they were born early enough that I'm not too old to enjoy them.

6) I am grateful for my furbabies. Well, soon to be one furbaby (long story). Spot is a dream cat. He's not only a lovey kitty, he's silly and very gentle when Butterball plays with him. And yes, Spot comes running whenever Butterball is over. He just loves the attention!

7) I am grateful for my laptop, yes, my laptop ... not only because it's where my online friends live, but it's a source of distraction on those days where my only thoughts are where I could hide bodies that the cops wouldn't find them.

8) I am grateful for unemployment and adverse poverty. No, I haven't lost my mind. Really!! I have learned that I don't need material things to live happily. It's not what we own, it's who we love - friends, family - that makes us rich.

9) I am grateful for my health. As lousy as it can be (diabetic, high blood pressure) it's taught me to take care of myself. It's been a slow battle at times, but I am no longer on diabetic meds, thanks to a carefully thought out diet. Now to get serious about the exercise part! LOL.

10) I am grateful for ... and you're going to laugh ... I am grateful for people like FlyLady, who preach that it's okay to not be perfect. That your life (or home) didn't get in the condition it is in overnight and it won't be fixed overnight. Baby steps. It takes baby steps and of course, the desire to make things better. To not be overwhelmed by looking at the over-all picture, but to break things into nice, bite-sized chunks. Again, it's not just about your house, but about your life.

8/10/10

A Resolution ...

This is why I don't make New Year's resolutions ... why wait until the end of the year to make those needed changes when you can do something about it when you first notice things need to change.

Thus, today's resolution is to lose the negativity. Find the humor in a situation. And there is humor there if you look hard enough.

I've been reading some of my past blogs. Okay, my blog will never be a NY Times best seller, but still, there's some pretty funny stuff here. Until recently. Now I read too much bitching and lots of negativity. Pretty whiney shit, if you ask me.

It's taking it's toll on me. Mentally and physically. I'm back to having problems sleeping. No so much actually falling asleep, but wanting to do nothing but sleep. My eating patterns are disrupted - I've been eating healthier since the first of the year, now all I want is junk food. As much as I dislike sticking around the house, I have to force myself to go anywhere any more. Even the grocery store can be a bothersome task. I'm back to not giving a crap about much besides the messes the Wrecking Crew creates (and bitching about it).

Pretty much the symptoms of depression.

And as Chicken mentioned the other day at the picnic ... "You look like hell, girl. What's wrong". Yup, the poor thing got an ear-full alright. But it wasn't said in the whiney, bitching tone of my blogs. We laughed over it, and I did feel so much better afterwards.

So ... what I need to do is to get that Erma Bombeck - or Maxine - mentality back. Or as an old friend and one-time neighbor once said, "I love your outlook, you're so Rosanne about life."

Your mission, should you choose to accept it ... is to remind me to look at the humor in the situation instead of reacting with negativity, whining and bitching.

I'm up to the challenge. Are you?

8/9/10

And so begins another week ...

It starts off with a bang, too.

Grandson is a brat. Gee, this is news? No ... but he's starting his week off on a good foot. Not. He comes down the stairs in his underwear, after telling DIL he won't get dressed. Then it's the food fight (he wants cereal, then he doesn't he wants leftover birthday cake instead). And getting that boy to listen ... forget it. All the while DIL is trying to reason and negotiate with him. It ended up he was sent to his room, and the cats got the cereal bowl.

I don't know who looks more stupid ... him and his fits or her trying to reason with him.

She had asked me last night when they got home from Exie Pooh's mother's 90th Birthday party about discipline - I guess he really was acting up there, too. I told her that time out would work good for Grandson. "I tried that, it doesn't work. Nothing works". No ... time out works!! Discipline of any kind works. You just have to be consistent, follow through and then supervise to make sure he's following the rules of whatever discipline method you're using. Something she hasn't grasped.

Married Son had an errand he needed to run on the other side of town. She wanted to go with him. I told her go ahead, I'd watch Grandson ... and make him sit at the table until the cereal was all gone. She thinks that was too harsh of a punishment so she stayed home. He's in the bedroom playing (not a part of the "go to your room" punishment) and she sits on the computer - not checking on him. She's not speaking to me, either. She's mad that she had to stay home with a brat, and seems to want to take it out on me. However, I don't find the silent treatment to be punishment. I'm rather enjoying it.

And then she wonders why she's got problems with him?

But then, don't try to tell her anything ... whether she asks for your input or not. There's always a reason or an excuse for whatever. Or if you know you've caught her dead-to-rights, she pulls that not me shit. Hmmm, could that whole attitude be the whole reason in the three years at her work she's never been up for any type of promotion?

Half an hour after she sends him to his room he's downstairs (dressed finally) and get this ... she gave him a drink box and a piece of birthday cake.

So ... he gets his way after all. What good is it to ask about discipline or to send him to his room as punishment if you're only going to give into his demands anyway?

And I keep saying to myself "not my child". She allowed it to happen, she can live with the brat. Too bad I have to suffer through it too.

Thanks for letting me vent. I feel better.

Post Script ...
Grandson has this whiney squeal he uses at times. Grates on my final nerve on a good day. I asked him to stop. DIL says "turn your bell-tones down". Excuse me? I told her he needs to turn his volume down, way down. And then we got into it ... tell me to deal with it! And so rudely.

It's gonna be a looooooong week!

8/8/10

What's that I hear?

Could it be I hear myself thinking? Could be ... no outside noises, no interference, no yelling or screaming. Silence. Blissful silence.

The house is empty! Just me and the cats. And they're obviously enjoying the quiet, too.

Ahhhhhh.

I can actually hear the tap tap tap of the laptop keys for a change.

The Wrecking Crew and Single Son are out! The house is all mine.

Alien called ... three times she called. I didn't pick up. Instead I decided to go lay down for a noise-less nap for about half an hour. As I finally dozed off, she came in the house ... came up to my room where I faked being asleep. "Mom? You awake? I need a huge favor. I need you to watch Butterball for a few hours tonight". I told her I couldn't ... that I have a headache (which is partially true), and that my head feels like it wants to split wide open (was true last night, but not now). Told her sorry, but there's no way I was up to it.

All because she wants to drop two tires off at the "Knight in Rusty Armor"s mother's house. Ummm, excuse me ... give her directions and let her come get the freaking things herself. Geesh ...

Momma here needs a peaceful night all to herself. And I'm gonna get it, by gawd.

Yesterday was the USS Sinclair's (star trek geek group) annual summer picnic. It was a great day for it ... not too hot, a nice breeze blowing, mostly sunny. Perfect. Although I did manage to get a sunburn on my face (thus the splitting headache yesterday). Grandson, for the most part was well behaved, except for a few major melt-downs and temper tantrums. And terrorizing two "service" dogs belonging to one of the guests that sure aren't used to small devil children. The dogs behaved perfectly, even when Grandson didn't. Oh, and him deciding to sneak into our Canadian guests brand new travel trailer, and jump on their bed ...

I was a little disappointed in the attendance, though. Ten all together, including three guests. Being our chapter has over thirty members, that's not a good turn out.

The picnic was in a KOA Kampground. I'd never been to one before and was really impressed by not only the cleanliness of the campgrounds, but the many activities available to campers and day-guests. Definitely someplace I'd stay ... well, if I had a tent or camper anyway. LOL. Although, they do have cabins to rent, too. I'm thinking it'd be a good place to head when I'm fed up and need a get-away for an evening.

So ... here's a few pics. There are more pics, but those were rather boring ... you know, shots of people talking, sitting around the campfire on a hot summer's afternoon, or just general point the camera and see what pics we get shots. These are the highlights ... enjoy!

I'm headed outta here to enjoy a quiet evening at home - ALONE!

Thursday

Life goes on. Today is gremlin free.

Married Son got DILs car fixed in record time. The smoke was actually from a broken coil spring (gee, that sounds familiar!), that was causing some type of friction-type smoke. Took him under an hour to fix it.

Chicken wants me to come down to Detroit to take care of him while he mends from his injuries. I thought about it for a split second and my decision was no way ... his nose is broken, skull slightly fractured, NOT his legs or back, he can fend for himself. As bad as I need a break from the Wrecking Crew, I am not staying for a few days in one of Detroit's worst neighborhoods. I don't care how good our friendship is. Nope, don't need a break that bad! Besides, you know what a few days of unsupervised Wrecking Crew would do to my house?

Still waiting on the insurance adjuster to come. Not that I need to be home for her inspection, but there are a few questions I do want to ask her.

Alien has her first court appearance on Monday concerning the assault charges against the Loser. I've offered to babysit Butterball for her. Funny now that she sees WHY I wouldn't babysit before but will now.

Speaking of Alien, she's been over almost every day since he was arrested. It's so nice to finally be able to not only rebuild our relationship, but to finally get to spend some quality time with my grandson. He's really finally opening up to me. To see him reach for me now just melts my heart.

And we're carrying on the "ring tradition". You know, I blogged about it back in my early Multiply days ... where the kids break up with their girlfriend, or boyfriend, and I get the ring. Yup, Alien is bringing me the ring that Loser gave her. It's a pretty ring, and holds no sentiment to me ... so I'll be able to wear it without looking at it and remembering the bad (like I did with my wedding rings - that my mother now has).

There's more I'd like to blog, but Alien just called. She needs my help with gathering evidence into a nice presentable portfolio (photos, her blog entries, etc) for the upcoming case.

I'll be back later ...

Gremlin is back ...

Can I be excused from the rest of this week, please?

Here's a run-down of the last few days here ...

Thursday, Married Son asks if I need anything while he's out after midnight. Sure, Diet Mt. Dew, please. He forgets, so runs up to the gas station at 1 AM. Comes out of store to find his truck is blocked by a wrecker and a squad car. Repo man chases him down. This isn't the gremlins fault, this is the fault of the truck owner. However ... it seems to set the tone of the weekend and into this week in motion ... Oh, and DIL blames me!! "If he hadn't gone back out to get your pop we'd have the truck." You know I was happy to point out "no, if YOU'd have paid the bill you'd have the truck". Dumbass.

Friday. Midnight. Alien beaten up by Loser. Again, not the Gremlin, but Losers fault for being ... well, a loser. Temper tantrums get you locked up.

Saturday. Tree fell.

Sunday ... my friend Chicken badly beaten and in hospital until this afternoon (Wednesday), when he finally is able to call me to let me know what happened. His cell phone was stolen so he didn't have a way to call anyone (talk about no memory for numbers, lol). He's got a hairline fractured skull, broken nose, bruised ribs ... all because some thugs in his neighborhood in Detroit were bored!

Monday ... Mom went to doctor's complaining of shoulder pain. She's got a "locked" shoulder. Therapy three times a week for at least a month (possibly two). Therapy is right down the street, so I don't need to rush over to sit with Dad.

Also Monday ... DIL is at work. Smells smoke. Investigates. Goes to electric control panel, sees "change filter" light flashing on the a/c panel ... lights go out as she's checking. Her boss is no help "let the place burn down" she says. DIL calls fire department asking for a smoke investigation. The last working A/C unit is on fire (two others haven't worked for a year). Four firetrucks, one medic truck and a bunch of cops later she's home "oh ... I got to see all sorts of sexy firemen today". Building fine. They were open for business the next day (I wonder what the health dept would think of that).

Tuesday wasn't too bad, minus that fight with Married Son ... was that yesterday? It's all blending in to one big gremlin blur at this point. Ya, it was yesterday. On the plus side, being we were all pretty ticked off with each other, DIL went to clean the bathroom, I went to sort through some eight or so drawers that needed attention, and Married Son went to throw fallen tree branches around. LOL.

Today ... Grandson has turned into the Devil Child. We'd expected some "trouble" after his weekend camping trip with his Popa, but this is ridiculous. He asks for food, then after one bite hates it, he says no to everything his parents say, screams yells and has started to hit walls, and really is the most difficult child. Married Son sees this is out of control, that NO child should be allowed to get away with this. Yet, DIL is trying to bargain with him over everything. She undermines Son's authority in front of the child, and tells Grandson he is free from whatever discipline Son just doled out (like sitting in the chair until he eats, even it it means all day). He asked, I told him "not my place. Not my kid. BUT you need to talk to DIL and NOT when the boy is around. He doesn't need to see his parents fighting over him. He's using this to play against you already, Dad's a prick, Mom's a push-over. He's not dumb. He'll keep playing the game until you both can decide on an approach you can both follow through on. Don't let him see you talk to her about anything that concerns adult conversations, especially where he's concerned".

Then ... just for shits and giggles .... DIL has to work. He's going to drive her so he can use her car. Not three minutes out the door I get a phone call, "Mom, we're at the corner by the yield sign. There's smoke pouring out of the Grand Am". Just freaking great. I leave, get DIL and drive her to work. I'm laughing at the misfortune of this last week. She's looking at me like I'm either an evil witch or just plain daft. Half way back home, my gas light comes on in my car. Great, I only brought my license (oh, the legal papers for the car where in the car the whole time, Single Son didn't see them), no gas money or charge/debit card to get gas with. Grrrrrr.

Got home, got comfy ... I hear Married Son say "come on Son we have to leave". Ummmm, wait ... their car is half dismantled on my driveway ... HOW are they going anywhere? And you know I asked! "Your car Mom". "Um, do we ask, or do we take total advantage of dear ol' mom by just stealing her car?"

Screw Calgon!! Delta take me away!!

8/3/10

Excuse me while I vent ...

I think the heat, humidity and stresses from the last few days has caught up with us all ... and it's showing.

Married Son and I just got into a shouting match, big time. Damn fool thinks he's the head of household, barking orders and making judgement calls he's got no right making ... add that DIL is back to the "not me" shit ...

I'm so ready to move into a one bedroom apartment in an adults only complex. I never thought I'd be saying I wish I were 55 already and could move into a place that there's no way THEY could come to stay for more than a few hour short visit.

I'm so pissed I actually am in tears.

How dare he tell me he does everything around here, and I do nothing. Excuse me? Even if it were true, he has no place saying anything. This is not his home, it's mine.

Call me a lazy ass that does nothing. Hello? Everything I try to get done around here, his wrecking crew of three undoes shit faster than I can clean it. Two steps forward, fifteen back.

I told him to STFU and if he doesn't like it he knows where the door is. I didn't order that they move out. I know better, I know about the eviction process ... I told him if he doesn't like it he can leave ... yet he jumps across the table at me out of anger. Didn't touch me ... or attempt to, but I'll be damned if he's going to play that intimidation game his father played so fucking well. He best take all his shit with him this time, I'm NOT playing storage unit any freaking more.

And that's what he reminded me of ... his abusive father. Barking at me, and when I didn't bow down and say "Yes God" he totally blew up.

Poor Single Son came up from his room just a minute ago, asking me what I was doing about dinner ...I busted out crying, telling him I don't know. He hadn't heard the fight, so had no idea what the tears are about. We got to talking, or should I say I was bitching about it (yelling and bitching - venting to Single Son) and out of the corner of my eye, I see DIL in the next room, listening. GOOD! Let her hear what I'm saying!!

I told him basically what I've already typed above, PLUS ... when I (finally) do find a job, and I'm paying the bills once again, The Wrecking Crew is g.o.n.e. I'm tired of the disrespect, the control issues, the messes, and the noise. Done. Finished. The End.

I told Single Son that once the house belongs to the two of us again, to shoot me on sight if I ever agree to anyone else staying so much as overnight.

Aren't ya'll glad we have this time with the Wrecking Crew to blog? Better enjoy it now. I can't see the Occupation lasting much after the first of the year. Provided I'm not in jail for some domestic charges or the other.

Squirrel Damage repaired – the hard way

So … as usual I go to bed late, and I mean late, like 3 am after watching some movies. Seven this morning  I wake up for whatever reason … hear a light knocking sound, then hear it again a few seconds later. Thinking it’s someone trying to break into my shed, I look out my bedroom window … in time to hear the final death cries of the old dead tree in my backyard. Needless to say at the first sign of cracking I head the hell out of my bedroom in the back of the house, seeing and hearing my wall shake in the process. I met Single Son in the hallway on his way up to check to see if I was alright. Once we figured out it was the tree, Married Son and I head out to check the damage.

Yes, I have pictures.

For the full album, check out:

The power and phone lines have been pulled from the house. Single Son said he saw arcing and smelled something funny. I’m glad I didn’t smell it! I have a paranoia about house fires. I’d have freaked out had I smelled anything. Luckily no power in the case meant no fire.

The neighbor’s back yard looks like a war zone. Their steel swing set is history, nothing but a tangled mess. What’s odd, their inflatable kiddy swimming pool next to the swing set is unharmed. The fence between the two houses is squashed beneath the tree.

Oh, and there was no wind, no rain, no nothing … it just fell over. It had stood tall for all our recent storms and high wind days. Only to fall on its own accord when we least expected it.

I wish I had charged my cell overnight. I had fully intended to charge it when I woke up this morning. Oops. It’s dead, and it’ll be a while before I can charge it.

It’s now just before 10 AM and the electric company is here. That was fast! And yes, I am writing this offline for later posting. Gotta love battery operated laptop computers!

As I was out talking to the Electric Guy, two men approached from one of the yards backing mine. Turns out they were the tree crew from the electric company. Asking when it happened, I told them “7 am, today”. “Oh, we were here to remove that dead tree today”. Talk about shitty timing, eh? But they won’t touch a tree already down (that’s up to the homeowner or resident), except to move it out of the way of the repair crew.

Now we have to get someone to remove the debris. No biggie, Married Son found a guy just last week that removed another tree stump. You know who will be getting a call today!

And an electrician. That’ll be next. Married Son’s FIL is a licensed electrician. The electric company will only repair the meter and the lines, not the box that covers the meter. So, FIL will have to replace that, as well as pull permits. This isn’t going to be an easy fix, I see. Ah well, it needs to be done.

Next I call the phone company on one of the boys cell phones. Haha, I was going to call them today anyway to repair yet more squirrel damage. Now they have to come out to replace downed wires. I just hope that fixes the squirrel problem and that that’s not further up the line.

Now my sons, also sleep deprived, are needing coffee. Because there’s still no power they’re out of luck. Or are they? As a joke, I suggested they go to the neighbor on the other side, who has electricity. And they did!! There’s an extension cord running from the coffee pot that’s been moved close to the front door to the neighbor’s front porch outlet.

How ghetto can we get?

Stay tuned.

Wow!! 10:40 AM and we have power again! The electric company just left. That’s a record! Now to plug the cell phone in. I'm not gonna ever leave it to charge in the morning again!

I just hope this isn’t indicative of how my week will run. I have so much to plan with our Star Trek picnic being this Saturday.

If so, it’s gonna be one long week.

Tree Fell 2010

the meter box to our house. Sparks and stinky!

Nothing like an early morning wake up call from Mother Nature!
