This week's theme was provided by your hostess . . . Gina . . .
The holidays are here . . . Santa is making his list and checking it twice and he already knows who's been naughty and nice!!
What are the five things you'd most love to receive from Santa this year?
1. A new computer!!
2. A new car!!
3. Enough money to pay off my bills, my kids bills, and have some "mad money" left over for a family vacation.
4. A job!! I've been unemployed for too long. I'm tired of applying for jobs and not getting one!! I'm beginning to get a complex going here ... I know it's not me, it's this lousy economy Michigan has ... but geesh. I'm getting so I'd scoop poop in a horse barn if it meant a regular paycheck!!
5. A housekeeper ... just for the months that I'm in college. Nah, if Santa's gonna bring it, the whole year. I'd love to take a year off of housecleaning!!

Ten Thoughts Tuesday ...
1) Furnace wars is on!! Seems every time I turn my back that blasted Gremlin cranks the heat back up to 72. Now, it'd be tolerable IF my bedroom and the bathroom wasn't on the floor directly *above* the furnace. I'm sweating my butt off!! It's like a sauna on the top floor of my tri-level home. Of course, the Gremlin hasn't figured out that he needs to layer his clothing ... sweatsuits ... whatever. The Alien and I are roasting up here!
2) A week and a half and the quarter is over. Winter break!! Yippee!! Believe it or not, as easy as the classes were this quarter I'm burned out. I'm blaming the magic markers and their yucky fumes that we had to use in my two art classes. Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
3) Be warned. Next quarter I'm taking HTML classes!! I'm also going to be studying CSS on my own. You think I'm bad with changing themes now? Just wait!! There's gonna be a ton of squirrel themes hitting the Multiply theme groups. Hehehehehehe ...
4) Just found out that there may be no Family Christmas Dinner this year. And I'm not sad. I don't get along well with most of the family, so it's no skin off my back. Besides, this way ... it's going to just be me, the kids and grandkid. Maybe. I'm sure they'll jump at the chance to have a holiday with their significant other's family for a change. Me, I'll probably do the Christmas dinner out thing.
5) OMG!! I'm only on number 5 and already doing the 'ummmm' thing. Has my life become that mundane that I can't come up with ten thoughts this week?
6) Ummmmm ... took Alien out to Taco Bell for dinner tonight. I let her drive. I'm usually a calm person. Not much bothers me. Her driving down Telegraph Road at rush in heavy traffic, now ... that bothered me. WTF was I thinking letting her do that? (Telegraph Road is a main road in town. Seven lanes of sheer terror. Ask anyone who knows the area ... it's a bitch of a road with an experienced driver. A rookie driver? Man, I need a drink)
7) Maybe that's why I can't come up with ten thoughts. I've been traumatized!!
8) We did go to the grocery store, though. Alien couldn't park the car. Well, she did park, if that's what you want to call it!! She stayed within the lines alright. The left front tire was on the left line, the right rear tire on the right rear line. If there were such a thing as "zig zag" parking, she'd have aced it. Oh yeah, then we get into the store and they don't have the smaller bags of cat food (my sole reason for going to the grocery store). Got one of those huge 18 pound bags. Not 5 minutes after I get home, one of the furbabies (Shiloh) had hopped in the now opened bag and made himself a new bed.
9) Someone ... and not me ... has to take Alien out to a parking lot and practice parking. I'll have Single Son do it. He's a cop. He's seen it all. He's brave ...
10) Thinking of a day trip the next weekend Alien is with me. I want to visit a town called "Hell". Yes, Hell Michigan. Even better, it's not too far from here! Less than fifty miles away. I so wanna get a picture of her standing in front of the "Welcome To Hell" sign. Hopefully it'll be a snowy day because I also want a picture of the "Hell" sign frozen over. Yup, next time someone says "when Hell freezes over", I'll provide proof that hell DOES freeze over.
Yup, people, it's official - I'm weird!

Snagged from Leann
I snagged this from Leann, who snagged it from Shades, who snagged it from ... oh! Nevermind ... let's get on with it, LOL!
How OCD am I? Let's find out:
HOW OCD ARE YOU?
[X] You have cleaned someone else's house.
[ ] You are picky about everything (some things)
[X] You have wiped off a kids face that wasn't related to you.
[X] You have taken three showers in one day.
[X] You "fix" things like photo frames that are sideways.
[X] A tag coming out of someone's shirt presents a problem to you.
[X] You rock at making lists.
[X] You're very into details.
[X] You know how to do your own laundry.
[X] If you can't fix something it drives you nuts.
[X] Nothing is wrong with having things alphabetized.
[ ]You count your steps most of the time.
[ ] You have to know everything.
[ ] Everything has a place.
[X] Untied shoes bug you.
[X] If you're walking through a store and something is off a rack you put it back.
[X] If labels aren't facing you, you have to fix them so that they do.
[X] Things don't have to be perfect. They just have to be the right way according to you.
[ ] You like vacuuming or mopping… it just makes the floor look better.
[ ] A cleaning product has blown your mind.
[X] It bothers you when someone moves something out of place.
[X]You have categorized something.
[X] Typos drive you nuts.
[X] You hate misspellings.
[X] You have corrected a teacher...but not as many times as I've wanted to!!!
Grand Total: 19
Count the check boxes and mutiply that number by 4 (the answer is your percentage).
So...I guess I'm 76% OCD! I am OCD in a way, but get easily side-tracked (more like derailed!!)

Friday Five
This week's theme was provided by Jacklyn705 . . . click here for her Multiply page . . .
Thanksgiving is a time of thanks and although it is an American holiday, let's focus on being thankful . . . in the following five categories of people, who are you most thankful for in each category and why (if you care to elaborate) . . . and . . . if you can't think of a person, in it's place, something that you are thankful for . . .
1. Family - I'm thankful for my children. Each has brightened up my life in their own unique ways. I'm also grateful for the time I had with my brother. He taught me a lot in the short 25 years he was with us.
2. Public leader - Not so much a particular person, but I'm grateful for those men and women who daily lay their lives on the line for us. Whether they're soldiers, firemen, police or emergency responders. They risk their lives for the citizens of their communities.
3. Friend - Tiger, for *finding* me after thirty years of being apart - for still laughing at my corny jokes. Just goes to show that true friends never forget us, or leave us. And last, but certainly not least - Penguin - for being my bestest best friend for more than a decade now.
4. Celebrity - H. Ross Perot. For starting out as a "little guy" and through his sheer determination, building the empire he built. All the while staying humble. I met him twenty-some years ago. A very friendly, very generous man.
5. Stranger - Not exactly strangers, but my online friends whom I have yet to meet in person. You guys brighten my days!!

Happy Birthday Son!!
Twenty five years ago today my second son, Married Son was born. Growing up he was a happy baby. Very content. Easily entertained. My cuddle baby. Said "I lub you, Momma" a million times a day.
Married Son was my adventure seeker. Was? He still is! He's the truck driver, the one who has always looked for the unconventional jobs, different from the norm. Definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer.
Growing up, he and his brother were pretty much sparring partners, I never thought there'd be a day they got along. He rarely started it, it was usually Single Son who started the fights. Poor Married Son always took the blame. Today they're best buds. And like his older brother, he's fiercely protective of family. He's extremely close to both of his siblings, and me. Loving husband and father of one of the cutest little boys I've ever seen. Then again, as Grandma to this cutie, I use my *Gramma Bragging Rights* often!
Married Son has grown up to be one hell of a man. Hard working. Helpful. Generous. He'd give someone the shirt off his back if they needed it.
Happy Birthday, Honey. I'm proud of you!! I love you.

Happy Thanksgiving ...
Yes, I'm grateful for many things. A family that doesn't always get along - but I do have a family and we do love each other. That we agree to disagree - that we can respect that we're unique individuals that make up our family, whether we agree with each other or not. I'm grateful for a vehicle that runs and that I have the skills needed to keep us safe while on the road, too. I'm grateful to my Creator - and Guardian Angel - for keeping me under their loving protection. I'm grateful to the friends who call to check on me, to make me laugh, to tell me they care ... knowing they're there for me - and I for them. I'm grateful to modern technology for bringing us the miracle of the internet ... and meeting all of my wonderful online friends. Wonderful folks who otherwise would never have graced and brightened my life.
I let Alien drive the hour and something up to my brother's house this afternoon. The drive went great. The roads were clear. I had absolutely no issues with Alien's driving!! Yeah, I teased her, but I am really proud of her, she's a good driver. Not fast, not too slow. Very aware of what's going around her at all times.
I wish my mother had been so well behaved. We had talked a few days before Thanksgiving. I said something about leaving the past in the past, and that if she brought up certain issues that she refuses to let go of I wouldn't hesitate to leave. Well, instead of bringing them up, she beats around the bush. I looked at her and quietly got up from the table mid-meal to go have a cigarette in my brother's garage. I was not going to let her anger (or mine) ruin the holiday.
Ate too much. Way too much. Brother had made a traditional Thanksgiving meal this year. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, his "secret recipe" cheese biscuits, and brocolli cheese dish. Delish as always!! I passed on the pumpkin pie and chocolate cake.
Mother started running her mouth again after dinner. I've come to realize that no matter what I do, no matter who I'm with ... this woman will never be happy. I mentioned that there's just no pleasing some people. I could work the ultimate job, marry someone with the wealth of Donald Trump or Bill Gates and she'd still look down on them!!
I then excused myself from the table, cleared my dishes and hung out talking to my brother for a few.
I love my family, but I really would have been happier with a ham sandwich at home. Alone. Less stressful, that's for sure! And just think, I get to do this all again next month for Christmas. Oy vey!
It was snowing and it just didn't look too good out, so I decided it was time to leave. Alien talked me into letting her drive again, but would pull over if she felt the roads were too slippery or she was uncomfortable. Soooooo ... off we go. The dirt roads were great! The minute we hit the main roads they were frozen over. Black ice. Nasty stuff. Alien pulled over in a hurry!! Not three minutes after I took control of the driving we were to encounter the first of three bad accidents.
The first was when some moron felt traffic was moving way too slow for him. He was directly in front of me. I believe he was probably going to go into the left lane and pass us all. Only it didn't happen that way. He hit some black ice and lost control of his SUV. I missed him. Barely. I lost control of my car, but quickly regained it, too. His SUV ended up ditched. It wasn't pretty. Alien was just freaking out!! Thank the Goddesses she wasn't driving or we'd have been hit for sure.
The second was pretty much the same as the first. Only we weren't in danger of being hit. It was pretty funny to watch some moron who thought he was better than the road conditions (again black ice) and ditched his truck.
By the end of the second accident I was actually laughing. Hysterically. Nervous laughter, really. But then I started to realize that I missed seeing Alien totally freak. Funny how now she's got a whole new respect for drivers, and driving. Poor kid was shakey for the rest of the ride home!
The last accident was sad. I don't know the details. All I know is that they closed down the highway we were on. Detoured us around that accident. The only time they close down the road in that town for an accident is if there's a death. I closed my eyes when stalled in detour traffic and said a prayer for those involved.
Hoping your Thanksgiving was a good one. That you are all safe. That you ate too much, laughed too hard. That you spent it exactly how you wanted to - with family and/or friends or enjoying a quiet dinner at home alone.

Ten Thoughts Tuesday ...
... *or* as close to it as I can get today. Doubt I have ten thoughts ... it's been one of those weeks!
1) Sleep deprived big time the last few days. Don't think I've had more than an hour or two a night in the last three nights. Insomnia sucks. Stress induced insomnia sucks canal water.
Read on as to why ...
2) Went to pick up Married Son in a nearby town this morning. Problem with being a team truck driver is that he can't always get a ride home. No biggie. I don't mind picking him up, really.
3) Dropped him off at his house only to find out from Daughter In Law that his sister (my daughter), the Alien, has had a total brain fart and is back with "Romeo Jr.", yeah the emotionally abusive jerk she was dating a month or so ago. I have huge problems with this boy and his entire family, and they all know it! And now, sneaking behind my back to see him again?
4) Now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. The more I bitch, the more I ground, the more it'll make her determined to go more and more behind my back. Add the complication that she's on her level one learners license now and she'll soon have her level two license (which means she can drive w/o an adult present). You know there's going to be rules, strict rules on the usage of a car (like *no* driving w/o an adult, screw the laws saying she can)!! Luckily this loser lives 20 miles away, so it's not like he's within a reasonable "sneaking" range. However, I do remember being 16. This fact does not work in her favor, as I was a sneaky little brat and *know* the tricks!!
5) Just to add insult to injury, my mother and I have been fighting like cats and dogs again. Don't want to get into the reasons why but the fighting is about the worse it's ever been. It's to the point I'm ready to say screw it - for the peace of the entire family, but mostly *my* peace, I'm ready to opt out for a ham sandwich alone at home on Thanksgiving Day.
6) Calgon take me away!
7) Got so much homework to finish this week. Why is it teachers slam you with twice as much homework on holiday breaks? It was that way in high school. Hasn't changed in college. Grrrrrrrr.
8) Wow, I have more thoughts than I thought I would. But, technically, does this count as a thought?? Heck with it, it's a thought ... let's see if nine and ten happens ...
thinking ...
thinking ...
oh, incoming email ... hang on ...
9) Oh goodie!! Thought number nine. I just got invited to a poker night at Tiger's house (no, not *that* kind of poker, geesh). I haven't played poker since high school (yes, *that* kind of poker). Invitation says "poker playing optional". Cool! Of course, I accepted the invitation. Been ages since I've gone to a party that didn't include Barney or Scooby Doo, hellium balloons and party favors!
10) Come on thought number ten ... nope ... nothing ...
UPDATE: 10:00 PM ... Guess this counts as comment ten? OMG! Alien is sooooo wishy-washy. Comments three and four had to do with her getting back into a verbally abusive relationship. Alien has been visiting with Married Son tonight. He just called to tell me that Alien and Romeo Jr. are not a couple as of this evening. I guess he made her cry over the phone about something, to which she said he'd never change, he'll always be a jerk and told him to never call her again. We can only pray that she sticks to her decision this time.
Calgon take me A W A Y!

Craft Idea - Making Books for Children
http://lcm1219.multiply.com/journal/item/33/How_To_Make_A_Book_..._
This is a project from the old days, modified for the computer age, LOL. Feel free to print up these instructions.
This is a project from the old days, modified for the computer age, LOL. Feel free to print up these instructions.
How To Make A Book ...
Helen Jane asked me to share my bookbinding *how-to's*. It's been a while since I've bound a book, so I don't know if ya'll want to really trust my memory (but I'll try below anway)!! I did find this helpful tutorial online, too, if you don't trust my memory, LOL! Dadcando.com
Here's my instructions ...
You'll need the following items:
Computer, and Printer
Scrapbooking program
Sewing machine or needle for handsewing
Heavy duty "coat" thread ... or other heavy thread
"ledger" paper for your pages. It's a longer paper than your typical computer paper is. White (blank) legal sized paper also works well for this project.
Cardstock, Bristol board, or other heavy stock paper - larger than the paper you're using.
Strong tape - such as a reinforced packaging or mailing tape. Duct tape will work if it's all you have available
Scrap book paper, contact paper, or wrapping paper for book cover. Or get creative and design your own cover using whatever materials you want
brown packaging paper (optional)
Glue Stick
Using my scrapbooking program ... "Journal pages" ... choose "ledger wide (2 sided)" ...
I set a thin line at the center point of the paper, running from top to bottom. This is where the page will eventually be folded in half for binding. This line is also my sewing guide line.
This is where it gets a little tricky!! I don't suggest this method for large books, but *only* for small story books!! You have to figure out HOW to number your pages. Let's say we have a story with 20 pages. The right side of the very first page will be your TITLE page. The back side of that will be blank. Page one of your story will start on the right side of a new sheet of paper - the left side of that paper will have page twenty on it. Page two will be on the reverse (left) of page one, page 19 will be on the right side. This is so when you fold them, and sew them, they will be in the proper page order!! Have I totally confused you yet?? That's okay, I made a template so you could see what I mean! Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see it.
Keeping a one inch margin all around (inch and a half where the seam will be) I now add text and illustrations. Keep in mind to "order" your pages according to the template!!
After you have all your pages set the way you want them, just print them up!! Stack the papers in order (see illustration), making sure they're lined up evenly. Using a heavy thread sew down the center line - using care that the pages don't slip or move out of place. After sewing pages together, fold down center line. Trim if necessary.
With the reinforced tape, run it down the center (landscape width) of your cardstock. Using a ruler, take a black marker and mark the center of the cardstock, from top to bottom. Next, sew your pages to the cardstock, again taking care to match centers.
Now you're ready to cover your book. Lay your cover paper face down on a flat work surface. Next, lay the book flat , also face down. Trim "cover" paper so it overhangs edges of book by about two inches. Fold these "flaps" over and glue to inside of your cardstock book cover, using glue stick. Let dry. Cut two pieces of your extra cover paper, or other paper that compliments your cover (I like using brown packaging paper) ... snug the paper up close to the seam, cut rest of paper to within an eighth of an inch of the inside edges of your book. Use glue stick to secure it to the inside bindings.
Let dry.
Inscribe inside front cover if desired.
Please feel free to copy this blog entry and template to your files ...
The arrows indicate that it's the "flip" side of the same sheet of paper.
I may actually get a little lazy and use one of those create your personalized story sites. Here's a cute one for the kiddies for Christmas. I love this site, by the way!! Lots of games and fun to keep the kiddies busy during the holiday season!! Don't forget to check out the letter to Santa!!

Screwy's Saturday ...
Here it is Saturday, and I'm not feeling well enough to go out and enjoy it! Nothing major, just a huge headache. I know what it's from ... eye strain ... happens whenever I 'outgrow' my glasses. And boy, have I 'outgrown' them!! I'm so grateful I now have insurance and can get this taken care of. I picked a great eye doctor, lol. The first available appointment he has is for December 13! Until then I've stocked up on Advil. Don't expect much computer time out of me until I get the new set of eyeballs and the headaches are but a fond memory.
Alien is single again!! This one lasted three weeks. At least she's learning if they're jerks to dump 'em quickly. No sense prolonging the misery. Looks like my baby really IS finally growing up!!
Alien is almost done with Driver's Ed. Talking to her teacher the other day he said he wishes all of his students were like her. Not only eager to learn and a good driver to boot, but well versed in all the laws of the road. His only complaint is that she's can't parallel park without freaking out! Thankfully we live in the 'burbs, where parallel parking is extremely rare. Whew!!
Been working hard with my cartooning. As much as I hated anime in the beginning I'm beginning to like it more and more. I've been working, too, on a coloring book for Grandson for part of his Christmas gift. The other part is a personalized Christmas story that I'm writing, illustrating and will put into a book for him. Thank the Goddesses for that segment in Brownie Scouts about "book binding". And yes, I *do* remember that far back!! Geesh!!
Got my new cell phone yesterday! Man, I love this thing! The last cell phone I had was pretty much a dinosaur compared to my new one. Add it's one of those phones that opens to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and a screen that even I can see, making my life so much easier. Since I seem to do more texting than talking on the cell phone, this is awesome!! There's so many features it'll take me weeks to learn everything it offers.
Not much more happening here in my Screwy world ... hoping ya'll are having a great weekend!!

1. What is your favorite holiday . . . and why, if you care to elaborate, especially those holidays not widely known . . .
When the kid were little and it wasn't so commercialized, my favorite holiday was Christmas. Now I guess it's Thanksgiving. My brother, a retired chef, hosts the majority of the holidays. Of course, he does all the cooking.
Your four favorite foods or drinks associated with this holiday . . . appetizer, main course, side dish, dessert . . . your choice . . .2. Honey-baked spiral cut ham. Yummy!

Ten Thoughts Tuesday
1) Too funny!! A phone call with Alien last Friday. She wanted a ride home after Driver's ed. Only she wasn't asking, she was whining and got that damned teen attitude with me. I couldn't get a word in edge-wise to tell her to call me when she's done and I'll come pick her up (or she can walk home if she keeps being bitchy). Sooooo, I told her "let's start this call again. Rrriiinnnggg, Rrriiinnnggg. Hello?" To which she was supposed to say "Hi Mom" - instead she says "you're a retard" ... "Nope, wrong answer ... rrriiinnnggg, rrriiinnnggg. Hello?" "Hi Mommy. How are you? Can you pick me up from driver's ed today?" "Sure honey, I can. Just call me when driver's ed is over and I'll be right up there to get my precious daughter." Whine and bitch me out. Ain't gonna happen. Not if she wants something!! Geesh. Teens.
2) Too cool!! I was cleaning out some stuff and found three gift cards. I called the toll-free numbers on the backs of those cards. I have just about seventy bucks on them!! I'm going shopping. Best Buy here I come! Not sure what I'll get, there's a few things I want from the stores the I have gift cards for.
3) Went to a baby shower on Sunday. Mommy-to-be got a lot of stuff. They just bought a beautiful four bedroom house. She's gonna need at least a bedroom to store all the things she got! I have to wonder how we ever raised our kids without baby monitors, baby carriers, five-in-one strollers, or all the other crap that the marketing people have persuaded young parents they can't raise a baby without. Man, I need to invent a baby product. Market it just right and I would never have to worry about a budget again. LOL!
4) Speaking of babies ... here's a huge pet peeve of mine. Baby Carriers. Yeah, they're convenient as hell. But where's the physical contact - that bonding between mother and child - if you're carrying your baby around like it's a suitcase? Come on young moms ... I dare you to hold your kids ... carry 'em.
5) I went to see "Fred Claus" over the weekend. Cute movie. I recommend it to everyone.
6) Classes are going well. I'm still helping out in computer class. Graphic Communications is going okay. I'm still having problems figuring out the design program they use. It's getting a little better, but I still have my brain fart moments with that darned program. Drawing is going great, of course. LOL. We just finished drawing anime. Yuck!! Call me old, or old fashioned, but I prefer good ol' fashioned cartooning. Much easier for me to do and far more flexible in my opinion. I scanned them. They're in my photo album called "my drawings" if you'd like to see how they turned out. Wow, now that's a shameless plug if ever I heard one.
7) OMG!!! Why me? There's this gal in my computer class ... absolutely obnoxious. Thinks the world revolves around her. Has to steal away attention from the teacher even during lectures, and of course it's never subject related. She thinks I'm at her beckon call to help HER when there's other students I'm in the process of helping first. Loud mouth. Can't shut up. Talks constantly about her favorite topic - herself. Yet if you ask her to sit down or be quiet so you can hear the lectures she gets rude - "you're not the teacher. Don't be rude". Yes, folks, this loser is in her mid to late thirties, she's not a young kid!! Yesterday between classes she's out in the smoking area. Bugging the hell outta me and the other smokers - one of which is our computer teacher. Luckily she didn't hang around for too long, but just long enough to tick everybody off. Of course Teacher can't say what she really feels about this big mouth student, but she hints at what's on her mind. Teacher asked me to bring duct tape to class (won't say why but it doesn't take a genious to figure that one out). This loser wants to be my buddy. I don't think so!! That's a poison I just don't want or need in my life. I spent the summer ridding my life of poisons. I don't need friends like that!! She won't take no for an answer though. Only two more weeks in the quarter. I'm so praying she's NOT in any of next quarters classes.
8) I'm tiring of the name "MIMom" but can't come up with a new name that I like. Wanna get away from the MI (Michigan) part of the name, we all know why. I'm fed up with this state. I can't wait until I'm able to move away. And yeah, I'm still a mom. Always will be. But my role in life is changing. My babies have grown up. Time to come up with a name that better represents who I am today. Any suggestions?? LOL!
9) I did something I said I wasn't going to do. LOL! I got a haircut. Four long years of growing out my bangs so they were the same length as the rest of my hair and I went and had 'em cut my hair. Didn't lose much length (good!) but I've got bangs again. I'll have to see if Alien will take a picture of me so ya'll can see.
10) I'm getting my birthday gift from Single Son early this year. On Friday he's taking me to his cell phone company store so I can be put on his contract. It'll only increase his bill by a few dollars a month, and I get unlimited calling and text messaging. His gift is to pay for my service. I've already got the phone in my possession, thanks to Married Son and his giving me my birthday present early, too. It'll be so nice to get away from the pre-paid service I've been using for a few years now.

Happy Birthday, Son!!
Today is Single Son's birthday. He turned 28. Damn, where have the years gone? Seems like just yesterday he was born!
And in all honesty, this child of mine is my hero ...
My first born. I was only 19 when he was born. His birth wasn't easy. He was breech. The doctors decided they needed to do an emergency c-section to deliver him. They discovered the cord was wrapped around his neck. Had he been a normal delivery we'd have lost him in delivery.
His delivery was to become the first of many times that he'd pretty much cheat death.
Single Son was barely five weeks old when he started to projectile vomit. He barely weighed seven pounds, but could puke with such force as to hit a wall twelve feet away. Calling my doctor in a complete panic on the day before my 20th birthday, we took him in. He refered us to a pediatriac specialist. He'd lost a pound and a half during this time. Pre surgery weight was 5 1/2 pounds. Diagnosis: Pyloric Stenosis. Basically it's a closing of the pylorus, the muscle at the bottom of the stomach that regulates digestion. He couldn't digest his formula, so it would be vomited back up. Forcefully. Surgery would be needed to cut the pylorus in half to allow digestion. Surgery was scheduled for the day after my 20th birthday. It went well, although during surgery he "coded" on the doctors a few times. Then a few days after surgery he stopped breathing again, this time for eight to ten minutes. Twice at the age of six weeks he cheated death!!
Single Son was a dream child after that rocky start. He was always cheerful. He barely cried. He was always laughing, always curious. Stubborn and determined, but cheerful about it. LOL! Elementary school was trying for us. The school kept trying to tell me he had an attention deficit problem. I knew better. They wouldn't listen. The school file (that we have possession of now) is full of "mother is difficult to deal with. In denial there's problems with this child". Never once did they ever test his IQ. Had they, they'd have discovered what I knew all along. His IQ is extremely high. The boy acted out because he was BORED ... and why was he bored? He wasn't challenged at all. The day he graduated with honors from High School I so wanted to track down those people that swore he was ADD/ADHD ... shove that 4.0 GPA of his in their faces!!
He again cheated death at the age of 20 when he was in that car accident I've blogged about before. Even then, he didn't let the accident stop him. Within three months of the accident (with a broken pelvis and his ruptured spleen being removed) he was back to work as the head of security at the local mall. That boy ... I swear, nothing stops him.
He's had strange things happen to him all his life. Gee, I see a pattern here. Me, him ... our guardian angels are warped!! He's had many close encounters of the animal kind ... something we still tease him about. He's been attacked by a monkey at work (pharm. lab), been cornered by one very pissed off possum (work), encountered a lion wandering downtown (work), and while on foot patrol one evening a car hit a deer - sending the deer flying into him, breaking four of his ribs (son's ribs, not the deer). I could only laugh while sitting in the emergency room with him. Who but my son could get hit by a flying deer and live to talk about it?
From the time he was a little boy, Single Son wanted to be a cop. He's worked hard to get his college education so he can be one, and is still continuing his education in Law Enforcement to be the best cop he can be. He graduated the Police Academy 2nd in his class. He's worked long hard hours and has managed to become a Sargeant at the age of 27. He's well known and well loved within the community by citizens of all ages. He's one of a handful of "Youth Bureau" officers. His "kids" love him!
Besides being a full time cop and full time college student, he also works full time as head of security in one of the plants of the Big Three Auto makers.
He's moved back home to help me until I'm on my feet again. Sacrificing his independance to help dear ol' Mom here.
He's a tough kid ... kid nothing. He grew up to be a hell of a man. The pride I have for him brings tears to my eyes whenever I think of him ... of his first weeks of life. Of what he's had to overcome to reach adulthood.
And he blushes when I tell him I love him.
Happy Birthday, Son ... I love you ...
My Cheesy Horror Movie Wish List
http://lcm1219.multiply.com/journal/item/21/My_Cheesy_Horror_Film_Wish_List
This is the extensive list of horror and "monster" movies that we're looking for!!
This is the extensive list of horror and "monster" movies that we're looking for!!
Ten Thoughts Tuesday
Ten Thoughts:
1) Married Son was home for two days. He left yesterday morning and won't be back until Thanksgiving for the weekend. Poor thing spent his two days off (12 days on, 2 off) working on our cars. Guess that's what he gets for knowing so much about engines. I'm betting he's wishing he wasn't such a darned good mechanic right about now.
2) Speaking of my car ... because of Married Son's being on the road 12 out of 14 days at a time we decided we better have a mechanic friend fix the car. He's looked at it, it'll be under a thousand to fix. I'm so geeked. I was so worried it was beyond hope. Even better, I can pick my car up later tonight!! Happy Dance!!
3) Alien's been having a heck of a time with her new nose piercing. The hole itself is healing well, the stud just keeps wanting to fall out. Saturday night sometime it fell out while she was sleeping. In her panic she put a regular earring in the hole until she could get to the mall to replace the nose stud. I kept getting mental images of her somehow *snorting* the earring back. Daughter in Law, knowing how much I hate shopping offered to take her. Yippee!! I didn't have to go!!
4) Speaking of the Alien, she had her first time behind the wheel in driver's ed on Sunday. Since she already knows how to drive, she thought it would be easy. Wrong! The teacher has his set of driving rules (remember the 10 and 2 positions on the steering wheel?) ... and she's having to learn those rules if she wants to pass driver's ed. She's doing great in the book-work section of the class. She had to be told to not answer all the questions the teacher asks during discussion - to give the other kids a chance to answer them, too. I guess that's the benefit of having both a cop and truck driver for brothers. Every time they're out with Alien, they teach her the laws and are quick to point out other drivers mistakes. However, if she thinks she'll be driving whenever she wants (like she thinks now), she's sadly mistaken. Driving at the age of 16 is a privledge, not a right, dammit.
5) Yeah, Alien ... she's been a true teenager lately. Testing every fiber of my being. Thinking now she's 16 she has every right to act like an adult. Grrrrrrr ... weeks like this it's easy to understand why some species eat their young.
6) Why do I have to have one of those Guardian Angels that either has a warped sense of humor or is just plain sadistic? With all the weird stuff that goes on in my life, I'm beginning to seriously wonder if Murphy ("If it can go wrong, it will" Murphy) is my guardian angel. T
7) I'm sure that the twitches I swear that I've developed lately will go away. Eventually.
8) Birthday season has officially begun! Three weeks ago was Alien's birthday. Starting Thursday there's a birthday a week until the week before Christmas. We start with Single Son and end with my birthday a week before Christmas. No wonder I can never afford Christmas!! Birthday season kills the old budget.
9) Too cute! The one kitty, Shiloh as adopted me as his human. I can't do a thing without my little shadow. I can't get any peace unless he's sleeping with me, sitting practically on my drawing board while I'm doing my drawing homework, and basically just being underfoot all the time. He loves to grab my drawing pencils out of the pencil box. Now if I could train him to grab the right one when I need it. He's even taken over one of my erasers. Heaven help me if I need it. It's his now and he won't share!
10) And yeah!! I finally got my medical card in the mail. A full month I had to wait for it to show up. Now I can finally start to make appointments for all these doctors I haven't been able to see for years because of lack of insurance! I'm a happy camper.

Oy ... frustrated!!
Ok, so something other than 360 has me very frustrated right now. My car.
Last week a water hose broke. The car was stranded some 20 miles away until we could get it worked on. The mechanic called and said I needed a new water pump. Finally got it fixed and we were able to pick it up today.
Had a Starfleet meeting, so after picking the car up Alien and I went to the meeting.
On the way home the car started acting funny. Overheating. Sheesh ... just had the heater core worked on a few weeks ago, now what??
Found a hose that's broken. Don't know what it is or where it leads, but I know a broken hose when I see one.
I had my car back for a total of three hours. It now sits in a parking lot, waiting once again to be rescued.
Luckily Single Son wasn't too far behind me on the road that I couldn't call him on the cell phone and say "Help". We did get a ride home from him, thankfully.
Remind me why I love that car so much?? I'm not remembering right about now.
