Ten Thoughts Tuesday
2) I don't know why I'm like this. Been this way all my life. I blame part of it on my being so darned easy going. I'd rather be walked all over than have a confrontation or decide to fix the situation once and for all. Takes a lot to get me fed up enough to actually want to do something about it! I knew for six years that I needed to divorce Exie Poo (first ex) before I actually filed, two years before I filed for divorce from Bubba. Two years of that whole "Bucky" situation (remember that? LOL). Three years to decide to stay and do what I can to improve things here in Michigan.
3) I think that's why I haven't moved yet. My heart wasn't really in it. I just didn't know it! I made a bunch of excuses - had to fix my health before I left, had to finish this semester, my folks health issues and a bunch of other excuses I had.
Okay, now I realize these first three thought could have been lumped together, as they are related. But with my history of brain farting around thought number 7 or 8 I'm doing it this way. Yeah, I'm cheating. Hmmmm, what else is on my mind today??
Ahhhh, I know ...
4) It's weird to drive my car with a new windshield. I had the crack in it since I took over that car last summer. It was Married Son's car before that. I was just the lucky one that got to watch it grow over the winter. The windshield is too clean for me now! It's hard for me to actually see out of it because it's soooooo clean. Yeah, I'm strange! No windex streaks, no smokey build-up, no coating of road dust ...
5) I guess that number 4 is a family trait. My grandfather was a truck driver locally back in the 1920s until his death in the mid-50s. One day when my mother was a young child they decided to surprise Grandpa and clean the dirty truck windshield. He about had a hissy fit!! He wasn't able to see through a clean windshield, it distorted his vision!
6) This is the *only* trait I've inherited from that side of the family. The remainder of my screwed up genes come from Dad's side. LOL.
Okay, so I'm not lumping related thoughts together again. I'm at #7 and already starting to brain fart. But didn't I already say that I have a history of brain farting around number 7 or 8? Let's see ... hmmmmm ... I wonder how random I can get on these last thoughts?
7) I really need to call the lawn man. My yard is in dire need of attention. This guy is great, last year he did my lawn for only the cost of the gas he used. The deal was that this year he'll charge me more. Still, I can't complain ... $25 is a hell of a good deal for a man that takes great pride in the work he does. Sorry ladies, he's a friend of the family and only cuts this deal for immediate friends.
8) I colored my hair last night. Auburn again. Came out really red this time. I love it, too ... a nice change for me.
9) I finally got to the grade portion of the college's website. Well crap, they don't post grades until May 1st!!! I did see my course grades, but those weren't the "official" grades - just the grades from the teachers grade books. Anyway, I won't have my official grades for a few more days. The wait is killing me. Think I said grades enough?? LOL!
10) Got a letter in the mail yesterday that about freaked me out. It was from my insurance company. It's an information packet called "Benefits for Heart Disease Members". Hello? Wait a freaking minute here!! Heart Disease?? This is news to me! I put a call through to my doctor, but am still waiting on his return call. I'm really really really hoping it was just an oversite on the insurance company's part. I know I'm on some pretty strong blood pressure medications - one of them IS typically prescribed to heart patients. Maybe that's what generated the mail? The fact my Dad is a stroke patient and had quad bypass surgery (history of heart disease) isn't helping me here at all.
Guess that's it for my ten thoughts today. Those last four were pretty much all over the board, LOL. At least these ten thoughts were in one posting, unlike yesterday where I posted ten different things, LOL. And yes, Helen, I was really really bored yesterday.

Dad's Oversight Lands Son In Foster Care
POSTED: 10:44 am EDT April 28, 2008
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- An Ann Arbor couple's 7-year-old son ended up in foster care over Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Christopher Ratte, 47, a professor at University of Michigan, claims he accidentally gave his son, Leo, some of the alcoholic beverage at Comerica Park a few weeks ago. He said he didn't even know the alcoholic lemonade existed.
He said he bought his son the drink at the beginning of the Tigers game and it wasn't until the ninth inning when a security guard noticed the bottle in Leo's hand.
The security guard asked Ratte if he knew it contained alcohol. He said he didn't and when he went to grab the bottle out of the child's hand, the security guard grabbed it first.
A short time later, Ratte was being questioned by Detroit police at Children's Hospital, where the child was taken by ambulance.
The child said he was feeling a little nauseated, but showed no other symptoms of being intoxicated.
The security guard said the boy drank about 12 ounces of the hard lemonade, which is about 5 percent alcohol.
However, the child's bloodwork detected no trace of alcohol.
The child remained in foster care for two days before his mother, Claire Zimmerman, a U-M architecture professor, was able to take their son home as long as the father relocated to a hotel.
It was two more weeks before the father could move back home.
Ratte and his wife have filed a formal complaint with the Child Protective Services ombudsman's office stating they thought the treatment was excessive.
Ratte has apologized for his mistake.
Personal note: Ignorance is NO excuse! I have never been to Comerica Park, but wouldn't Mike's Hard Lemonade be on an Alcohol menu board? What did this airhead not comprehend about the word HARD on the label??

Happy Camper!
So, not much else going on around here today. Been cleaning out one of my email boxes. That's why all the joke postings today. Good stuff I've been meaning to post to my blog before I delete them for ever.
Got an email I'm going to share with all my Michigan friends. I need to work on it a little bit first, since it came to me in a PDF file and I can't post it here until it's in a text format. I want to be able to share it with everyone. It's a list of Michigan companies and some of the many products they offer. If every Michigander would spend just $10 a week in buying Michigan-made products we would put $36 million back in to the Michigan economy *each week*!!
In the meantime I fould this link ...

Yeah, I know I wanted to leave Michigan for greener pastures. I still do in a way. But at the same time, Michigan *is* my homestate. I hate what's been happening to what was once a great state. We all need to band together and fix what's wrong.
Maybe then none of us will have to leave Michigan in search of employment.

No Enemies
No Enemies
Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, 'How many of you have forgiven your enemies?'
80% held up their hands.
The Minister then repeated his question.
All responded this time, except one small elderly lady.
'Mrs. Neely, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?'
'I don't have any.' She replied, smiling sweetly.
'Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you?'
'Ninety-eight.' she replied.
'Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?'
The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation, and said:
'I outlived the bitches.'

The New, New Alphabet

A is for apple,

and B is for boat,
That used to be right, but now it won't float!
Age before beauty is what we once said,
But let's be a bit more realistic instead.
Now...The *New* Alphabet

A's for arthritis;
B's the bad back,
C's the chest pains, perhaps car-d-iac?

D is for dental decay and decline,
E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!
F is for fissures and fluid retention,
G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.

H is high blood pressure - I'd rather it low;
I is for incisions with scars you can show.
J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,
K is for knees that crack when they bend.
L is for libido, what happened to sex?
M is for memory, I forget what comes next.
N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;
O is for osteo, the bones that don't grow!

P is for prescriptions, I have quite a few. Just give me a pill, and I'll be good as new!
Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?
R is for reflux, one meal turns to two.

S is for sleepless nights, counting my fears,
T is for Tinnitus; there's bells in my ears!
U is for urinary; big troubles with flow;
V is for vertigo, that's 'dizzy,' you know.

W is for worry, NOW what's going 'round?
X is for X ray, and what might be found.
Y is another year I'm left here behind,
Z is for zest that I still have -- in my mind.

I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed,
And I am keeping twenty-six doctors fully employed!!!

Gross Grub - Used Bandages
Gross Grub by Cheryl Porter Random House ISBN 0-679-86693-0
Ingredients:
10 large graham crackers
1 raspberry fruit roll up
20 large marshmallows
6 tbsp. milk
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups powdered sugar
orange food coloring
Directions:
1. Break the graham crackers into fourths along each cracker's perforated lines. Set aside. Unroll the fruit roll up and tear off forty dimed-sized pieces to be used as scabs. Set them aside as well.
2. Use a knife to cut marshmallows in half widthwise. Then cut the rounded edges off the sides of the marshmallow halves to form a square gauze for the bandage. Set aside.
3. Place milk and vanilla in a glass bowland heat on high for about 20 seconds or until milk is hot.
4. Remove the measuring cup from the microwave and pour in powdered sugar. Mix quickly with a rubber scraper until fully blended and smooth. Add two or three drops of orange food coloring and mix thoroughly until you've achieved a classic "bandage peach" tone.
5. To assemble, use the rubber scraper to frost each graham cracker. Frosting should be thin enough to allow cracker's dimple's to show through. (If frosting is too thick, add more milk) Next gently press marshmallow down, one on the center of each graham cracker, sticky side down toward the cracker. Next dip the tip of your finger in water to moisten, then rub it on one side of a fruit roll piece. Center one scab, wet side down, on each bandage.

1) I hate heat! I'm not looking forward to summer just for this reason. If it could stay about 60 degrees year round I'd be happy. Oh, and I'm cheap so I refuse to run the a/c in the car or house.
2) I was born in Detroit. We moved to Oakland County when I was two. I've lived in this county since then - forty six years and counting.
3) Bubba (ex #2) won a trip to the Bahamas in a radio call-in contest. Five days all expenses paid, except food, lol. I would have preferred to have gone with someone who would have appreciated the local culture. All he wanted to do was eat at McDonald's and S'barro!! Jerk had (has) no class!!
4) After my last divorce in 2002 I went through a series of dating disasters. And I do mean disasters!! From the *Unibrow* who ordered two dishes off the appetizer list because he had a buy one get one free coupon (that was our entire meal) ... to the rich guy who stuck me with the bill from an expensive restaurant ... to the guy that I just dumped because he wants a mother (for himself and to bear his children) - and more!! All of them bachelors. In fact, I've never dated a divorcee. Go figure! Women that complain there's no bachelors out there are wrong. That's all I attract for some odd reason!
5) I was painfully shy as a child. I'm far from it now.
6) I am not afraid of creepy crawly things. I refuse to kill them. If there's a spider roaming, or a bee buzzing in the house I will relocate it back to the outside. Even though I'm allergic to bees, I won't harm one. Bees usually only sting when they feel threatened - since I don't show fear they leave me alone. One exception to that rule are earwigs. Those damned things I'll squish in a heartbeat!
7) While I'm not big on video games or roll playing games, I do like to solve puzzles or play miniature golf on the computer.
8) I took five and a half years of French way back in junior high and high school. About all I remember is how to ask if I can go to my locker - or the bathroom.
9) My brothers played hockey when we were kids. Being the rink rat that I was, I pretty much grew up in hockey arenas - going to every game and most of the practices their teams had. I was a Detroit Red Wings fan before it was cool.
10) The most unique car I ever owned was a 1963 Plymouth Valiant. It had a push button transmission. It was a great little car. My most favorite car was my 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. I wouldn't mind owning either one of them again but my next car will be something practical that gets good gas mileage. Possibly a hybrid.

Friday Five
Hmmm, five things on my "do before I die" list ...
1) Take a long road trip in a camper. Six months or more on the road. No destination. Just get behind the wheel and drive. See the country. Visit the places my friends call home.
2) Live in a small town. Hopefully a waterfront small town. Maybe I'd find the perfect place in which to live while on that road trip.
3) Own a rat. Now, no eeewwwwws or yuuuuuuucks! Rats are great pets, they're highly intelligent and actually very friendly. A rat would be a great travel companion, too! Hehe ...
4) Visit every lighthouse on the Great Lakes. Heck why stop there?? Why not every lighthouse on both Ocean coasts, too??
5) Either marry a rich man -OR- win a multi-million dollar sweepstakes. This way I wouldn't have to worry about how I'll survive my golden years. LOL!

Wednesday Blahs
Speaking of cars ... I finally have an appointment to get my cracked windshield replaced. Since my car is a '99 they don't have the glass in stock, but they rush ordered it and I'll have a new windshield tomorrow morning. Yippee!! The crack is right in the middle of my field of vision. It's been fun looking around it while I drive. Yup, simple things make me happy. What's even better is that they'll waive my insurance deductable - the windshield won't cost me a dime!!
I've been playing with more animations today. I ended up changing the ones I'll submit as my final projects. Teacher knows me, she knows I'm silly. So of course I'm going to submit silly stuff. And naturally, I just had to do something with squirrels. Hehe ...
That's pretty much how I feel today ... just blah. Just wanna lay around and do a whole lot of nothing.

Ten Thoughts Tuesday ...
1) Well, "L" did it big time. Managed to piss off our entire group in Database class. Today was our presentation - our FINAL presentation. I went first. Uneventful, went as planned. Nice and smooth. Soft spoken, shy, "LL" gets up to the podium to do her part of the powerpoint presentation and she gets to the "Troubles we had with this project" page and there in big bold letters was "No one did any work except for two of us" ... Excuse me??? To make a long story short, "L" rewrote the powerpoint without the groups knowledge!!! It was a boldfaced lie and "L" knew it. After class there was a huge argument about the lies. "L" stormed off, but not before making a few threats to three of us in the group (she left the fourth group member alone). "LL" was in tears because of the threats. Teacher called Campus Police to escort the three of us to our cars.
2) I'm hoping that "L" doesn't show up for the Photoshop class we're both in on Thursday. She presented her final project last week, so there's no reason for her to show up at all! Hell, let her. I really don't care. I'll be civil. Let's see if she can be? I mean, geesh, this is college - not high school. Act your age for Pete's sake.
3) I learned that the saying "You can take the girl out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the girl" really IS true!!
4) Anyway ... on to bigger and better things ... especially now that I've calmed down. Have you ever noticed just how therapeutic blogging really is??
5) Sooooooooooooo ... let's see. It's Earth Day. Happy Earth Day ya'll!!
6) Some of the things I do every day to help the environment are:
- I turn off lights when leaving the room.
- Recycle. And with recycling goes *salvage*!! Don't throw that old appliance away. Call someone who can salvage it!!
- Microwave my meals whenever possible. It saves 50% energy over doing it in the oven or on the stove.
- Reusable shopping bags. I haven't had to answer "paper or plastic" in over a year now. I bring my own canvas grocery bags!
- Save precious, expensive, gasoline by designating one day a week as errand day. I pay my bills, grocery shop, and whatever else needs to be done outside the house and I plan the route well!!
- I turned down the water heater to 120 degrees. Not only is it more energy efficient, but it's safer!
- I don't use plastic sandwich bags or paper bags when I have to take lunch with me. Rubbermaid-type containers and a nylon lunch bag do just as well!
8) How's this for random? LOL ... Book buy-back was today, too. I was only able to sell one book back to the college. They wouldn't buy the other one - the expensive one. Guess I add it to the pile of other text books I need to sell on Amazon. I really should list them, too. Summer classes will start soon.
9) I waited an hour in line for buy-back today!! Talked to the nicest guy that was standing behind me. Nice way to kill time. I got to hear all about his toddler children (3 and 5 y/o boys), his wife and her job (teacher), and his life. Proud young man, that's for sure. And no, I didn't scare him with stories of my children's antics!!! I wouldn't do that to a total stranger! Really!
10) I'm craving a snack so bad. I've had my mind set on those new "Flipsides" crackers from Town House (half pretzel, half cracker - YUM), cream cheese and pepperoni for days now. I think today's a good day to break down and treat myself to a few of them. Riiiiiiiight. A few?? Who am I kidding?? A dozen or so!!
I'll be catching up with ya'lls blogs throughout the day ... HUGS!!

Finished My Animation Project
Originally I was going to do an ocean with a few fish, make bubbles moving upwards. I got to thinking last night, I did animations with two of my kids and my grandson so I really needed to do something with that remaining kid of mine. It took me all morning, but I finally found the perfect picture to use for my project. I turned Married Son into a bobble head!! LOL!
I haven't shown it to him yet. I'm not sure how he'll respond. Oh, he'll laugh but I'm sure there'll be a smart alecky comment there somewhere. Imagine, one of *my* kids being a smart ass ...

patties season again and cook until the second side is well browned. Place on open buns and serve with the worms sprinkled on top as a garnish. Don't forget the pus and blood. Serves 6 worm slurpers.
Sicko serving suggestion: Use a clean hole puncher to punch holes in lettuce garnish.

Sunday ...
Wow, take a day off from blogging and now I have dozens of blogs by email waiting for me. I'm hoping to actually be able to get to them today!
All those problems with animation have been figured out for the most part! And "L" was right, I was doing it wrong. It was a relief actually, as it made my project so much easier. I still have to figure out how to do two things (make it rain and make bubbles). But dammit, I've figured most of this stuff out on my own!! And in only one day!!
What's funny is that unbeknownst to me, I had the animation program on my computer the whole time! I just didn't know where to look for it! LOL!
I should be able to save them as a .gif and post them here ... nothing fancy, but it's neat to realize it's something I created, no matter how simple ...
Well, off to make rain ... ya'll enjoy your day!

It's Been One Of Those Days ...
So, with the Gremlin being so active today, I decided to take the day off from homework. I know the minute I start the Gremlin will rear his ugly head again!! I'm pushing my luck here blogging.
At least I got to see Grandson, so something *good* did happen today. I tried to take a few pictures of him on his tricycle. No such luck! LOL! Little booger stole my camera and proceeded to snap about a dozen pictures with it. He needs his own camera! Something that won't get broken if he accidently drops it He didn't drop mine, but I was worried a few times!
Guess I start keeping an eye out for inexpensive children's digital cameras, eh? LOL ...

Comments made in the year 1955!
"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00."
"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a used one."
"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous.
"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?"
"If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."
"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."
"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."
"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it."
"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."
"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President."

"Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more, those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat."
"I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."
"Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress."
"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."
"No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $35.00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for my blood."
"If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it."

A Nice Surprise For Me Tonight ...
So, before I could surrender my computer to the little "Paint, Gamma, Me Paint" monster, DIL corners me and tells me to close my eyes ... I feel a large box placed in my hands ... and what do I see??
These ...
Yes, Giant Playing Cards. Just to give you an idea of how large they are, my cell phone sitting on top of the cards is about the size of a long pack (100 mm) of ciggies.
Now I understand why Married Son was afraid to come into the room!! He knew I was about to smack the shit out of the little smart ass!!
Sad thing is ... I can read them without my glasses on, where I can't read the giant remote with my glasses off!
Add two more to the payback list!! They're ALL on it now!! Well, besides my precious little grandson. He's safe so far ...

Ten Thoughts Tuesday ...
1) Killer test in Database today. I really bombed it. Yup ... IF I get a D I'll be happy. Me, with the 3.452 GPA happy with a D!! It was that bad! I sat down to take the test and all the studying I did on SQL (a programming language) flew out of my head! I stared at the test like it was in some long forgotten ancient language! Why I froze, I don't know!
2) We had a fire drill in school today. Too bad I was already done with the test and was outside on break anyway enjoying not only the beautiful weather, but a ciggie.
3) Got my grade in Business in an email today. "B" is my final grade. I'm happy with that!!
4) I'm having problems animating my final exam for Photoshop class. No biggie. I'm sure I'll figure it out by this Thursday. Teacher says I can have an extension *only* if I absolutely need it, since I've missed a few days of class with health issues. I'm hoping not to have to take her up on her generous offer, but it's a relief to know it's there if I really really need it.
5) It looks like spring is finally in the air. It's a nice 56 degrees out right now. I've finally seen my first robin of the year, too!!
6) 96 years ago today, the Titanic sank. Yes, I'm a Titaniac amongst other things!
7) I'm trying to figure out what I want for dinner tonight. I'm home alone. Don't want to make a big fuss over dinner. Not sure what I want ... nothing sounds good lately. Not sure why. I'm not sick.
8) I get my stitches out Thursday morning! YIPPEE! I'm tired of an itchy face. LOL! From what I can tell, too, he did such a good job with the stitches that scaring should be kept to a minimum! YIPPEE!!
9) Married Son, DIL and Grandson came over yesterday. Alien, DIL and Grandson went off shopping and Married Son and I went grocery shopping. Nice to have muscles pick up those super-sized bags of cat litter and cat food!! We met up at McDonald's afterwards. Got some great pictures of Alien and Grandson playing in McDonald's Play Place. At 16 you'd think Alien wouldn't want to chase Grandson all over that thing, but she sure loves doing anything with him!! I'll post photos as soon as I remember where I left my camera! LOL!
10) Well, off to do my Photoshop final project. If ya'll don't see or hear from me for a day or two you know the animation project is getting the best of me, LOL! I'll catch up with ya'll when I can!!

Gross Grub - Tortured Tomatoes With Bird Dropping Dressing
From the Book: Gross Grub by Cheryl Porter Random House ISBN 0-679-86693-0
Ingredients:
2 large ripe tomatoes
2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese
Roquefort dressing
Directions:
Wash the tomatoes in cold water and cut into half inch slices.
Place slices in plastic bag. Squeeze out any extra air and close the bag tightly. Lay the bag on a clean plate placed in the sink. Now make a fist and gently pound the tomato slices until they look tortured.
Divide the tortured tomatoes among the four bowls and sprinkle with a half tablespoon of crumbled cheese. Then, holding a spoon at least 12″ from the salad bowl (to approximate the altitude of a low flying bird), dribble a glob of dressing onto each one.
Gross Grub - Creepy Crawly Gelatin
Description:
This recipe is from the folks at Crayola Kids magazine and Jell-O brand gelatin. Published by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 package (8-serving size)
or 2 packages (4-serving size)
lime flavor gelatin dessert
1 1/2 cups cold water
Gummy worms

Stir boiling water into gelatin in large bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water.
Pour into 9-inch pie plate that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Refrigerate about 1 1/2 hours or until thickened (when a spoon drawn through leaves a definite impression). Push gummy worms into gelatin. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm. Un-mold by dipping pie plate in warm water about 15 seconds. Gently pull gelatin from around edge with moist fingers. Place moistened serving plate on top of pie plate. Invert pie plate and serving plate; holding plates together, shake slightly to loosen. Gently remove pie plate and center gelatin on serving plate. Garnish with additional gummy worms, if desired.

My All-Time Favorite Job ...
I do have to say here, though, that *not all* of those ads are legit!! Some are total frauds. Anyone claiming they'll sell you a list of companies to apply to for mystery shopping I'd recommend staying away from!! In fact, any ad saying send money to work for them, RUN!!!!
If you wanna get real bold, call up some businesses in your area that you'd love to be a mystery shopper for. They may be able to tell you what companies they hire for mystery shopping.
I never had the chance to do some of the big shops. Hotels, expensive restaurants, high end clothing stores ... only because they usually have their own corporate mystery shoppers. Might wanna call them, too, to see how to go about doing the big shops. I'd love to do monthly "shops" on places like Muer Restaurants, Hilton Hotels, and Macy's!
Without naming names (against company policy to discuss WHO you did shops on), I did a hardware store chain (six stores every month), sweet shop (yum, eight regional stores, half of them every month), child's play land (Alien was my "cover" for this one. Hand me an aspirin please! Three stores, only one a month thankfully), and an import shop (my *big* expensive shop, five regional stores every month). Average pay was $15 a shop, average time of "shop" was 75 minutes including drive time. The play land shops were THREE hours in length, though . Mileage only after 20 miles, I no longer recall the rate per mile. Some "shops" I'd have to buy something to evaluate how the cashiers handled customers. Sometimes I got to keep the stuff (reimbursed for purchases). Sometimes I'd have to return things a week or so later so that I could evaluate how their staff handled refunds. Pay was monthly.
There's a lot of paperwork involved. Since I mystery shopped before the internet was popular, my paperwork was always mailed to me. Now they're mostly emailed. LOL, some shops I had 24 page packets, other shops it might be five or six pages long. Reading through the packet first I knew what they were looking for. Appearance of parking lot, store, employees, clean windows, etc. How'd the employees interact with you when you asked them product questions? Where they wearing name tags, uniforms (where applicable)? What was their appearance? Attitude? Knowledge of products? Were food products hot and fresh? Did cashier greet you? Ask if you found everything you were looking for, etc. Did they close the sale with "Thank you. Come again" or "Have a nice day"? Refunds - how where they handled? Was cashier pleasant about refunding your money? Etc. Some reports were more detailed, some less - it all just depended on what the business owners wanted to know.
I learned so much on this job. Not only about *spying* without getting caught, but how customers perceive a business. It helped in future jobs as a cashier or customer service supervisor. It's actually good training for any type of job, as you learn to LOOK through the eyes of the customer or client. I also learned to never, ever do paperwork near the business - you're more likely to be *busted* as a mystery shopper that way! LOL ... I kept a voice recorder with me. I'd say the names of each person I ran into (paperwork wants to know who you talked to), and key things I needed to remember. And for Pete's sake should anyone ask you if you're the mystery shopper play stupid!! I was asked a few times because I was a frequent shopper at the hardware stores - yeah a frequent female shopper in a hardware store sticks out like a sore thumb I tell you! LOL ... I lied through my teeth, looking puzzled, when I said I had no idea what a mystery shopper was. I don't remember now the story I gave them as to why I was in their store once or twice a month!
It's funny, typing all this I realize how much I miss that job!! I'm gonna have to hit their website myself and re-apply! Well, after the semester ends and I have some time again! LOL!

Five of the jobs I've worked:
1) Floral Cart. It was an old, antique push cart. Luckily it was stationary, sitting in the middle of a mall, long before kiosks were all the rage. We sold fresh cut and dried floral arrangements. Even our cash register was an antique. Met my first ex-husband while working here in the mid-70s.
2) I worked for a hospital inventory company. From bedpans to syringes. Aspirin to wheelchairs. I compared inventoried items to computer readouts, looking for indescrepancies - back before the task was computerized. Late 70s.
3) Crossing guard. Possibly the most dangerous job I've ever had or will have. There were those who didn't respect that there were little kids crossing the busy street. I've had some real close calls, being lightly grazed by some idiot in too big of a hurry more than once. Also one of the most fun jobs I've had. The kids were all real sweet. Late 80s.
4) Mystery shopper. Posing as a customer I'd go in with a list of things to watch for from store cleanliness to adequate stock on shelves to friendliness of employees. I'd report back to my company who in turn would submit my reports to the stores. My favorite job!! I did this for about ten years - mid 80s to mid 90s.
5) Comparative shopper. I would go into competing stores with a list of items and find if our store had them for a lower price. When I did find lower prices I had notify my district supervisor so we could lower our prices. Mid-90s.

10 Random Things About Me:
1. My folks are still married, 51 years and going strong.
2. When I was growing up I wanted to be either an architect or a gypsy. I even designed my own gypsy caravan once.
3. I was 19 when I got married and when my first child was born. Young, very young.
4. I collect anything related to lighthouses - figures, books, pictures, you name it. I'd love to live in a lighthouse!
5. I HATE scary movies. The exception would be "B" horror movies, those old time cheesey horror films, mostly in black and white.
6. I didn't get my license until I was 17. I was just too scared to drive. Now all I want to do is get behind the wheel and drive. Go figure.
7. I'd love to move somewhere warm. Looks like I'm going to be in Michigan a lot longer than I'd planned on though.
8. Underneath my sloppy *exterior* is an organized person just dying to come out.
9. I hate the idea of working for someone else. I want to be self employed. My own boss, my own hours.
10. I love Multiply. All of my friends are here!
I am supposed to tag people but do it if you want to.
Automated Phone Systems ...
I love 'em!!
I don't care one way or the other.
Are you kidding? They suck!
I absolutely refuse to deal with them.
I get a "gentle reminder" call that one of my utility bills is now past due and needs to be paid soon. Press 1 if you're the right person to hear their automated message. So, I did, knowing full well if I don't they'll call me ALL DAY LONG!! I ended up in circles. Their automated system malfunctioned and kept sending me back to the beginning of the call. Grrrrrr ...
Then, I have to call the cell phone company, but had a few questions I needed answered first. Plus, I *needed* to add a few services - like caller ID and voice mail. Married Son is using my cell as his business contact number, since I'm pretty much doing secretarial work for him anyway. Soooooo ... after being asked for English or Spanish (and *why* do I have to choose anyway - but that's another pet peeve for later) ... I'm given a menu of selections. In my usual smart assed tone I say "I need to speak to a human". Obviously the techs who programmed this system expected this type of response as I'm told by the computer "I'm sorry, I am unable to connect you to an agent at this time". Nothing I could do would produce a human to interact with. Finally, after hysterical laughter from both myself and Single Son (we are easily amused, can you tell?) he manages to connect to a real live human being!! He throws the phone to me so I can talk to her. She just laughed when I told her she's got the most beautiful human voice I've heard all day.
An hour wasted trying to get a human being to help us!
Is it just me, or are those automated systems really an annoyance?? I refuse to deal with them, give me a real live person!
They're almost as bad as those computer generated phone calls. Look, if you want to talk to me then you better have a human call. Why should I sit through some computerized message if YOU don't care enough to have a human call. Grrrrrrr.

Ten thoughts Tuesday ...
2) The good news is there's been no shots fired since the last time I blogged about it. Then again, all the barky dogs are being brought in at night, too. Maybe there really is a correlation between the two!!
3) So it's official, lol. Single Son *is* moving out early this summer. He's ready to fly the coop, LOL. Actually, he's been ready, just hung around this long to help me out. He's wanting his privacy, his own place across town. Can't say as I blame him. Married Son, DIL and Grandson will be moving back in with me!! I'm geeked. I miss my grandson. Even miss Married Son and DIL, too! LOL! Sure they only live a mile away right now, but I miss the little booger!
4) For someone who said she couldn't wait for an empty nest, why am I so geeked about having them move back in? Yeah, only a small part of it's because I can't quite afford to live alone, at least not yet. I just don't think I'm honestly ready for the empty nest yet. I never thought I'd admit that!! I'm just not ready for an empty nest right now. Wonder if I'll ever be?
5) Alien's geeked. She loves having Grandson around. I wonder how long that'll last?? When they moved out the first time Grandson wasn't walking yet. Now he'll be in her stuff only all the time!! He sure loves his Aunt Cocoa (as he calls her). I wonder if Alien's just more geeked about finally getting the "basement" bedroom (fourth bedroom) since we need to keep Grandson and his parents on the same floor. I don't want the basement bedroom. She'll have more privacy being downstairs where there's no other bedrooms. And this'll be the first time she'll have a major say in how the room is decorated. Could be interesting.
6) There's so much to do to child proof the house once again. First thing is getting rid of things we no longer use or need. Gotta make room for not only three more bodies, but a buttload of toys that one toddler brings with him!!
7) Oh yeah. My business class final went good. Doubt I got a perfect grade, more like a B on it. We have to report to class next week to get our final grades. After that, we're done with the class - a few weeks early.
8) Database class is going pretty good. The group has finally come to agreements on how our "business" should be run. It's made creating our databases so much easier when we finally all agree what we're doing. Teacher looked over our work and said it's the most complicated project in the class. I guess this is a good thing, too many of the other groups are really *not* doing the full amount of work. He actually doesn't care if the program works or not (the pros spend *months* on these types of programs), he just wants to check that we understand the principles behind it. What's funny is, we did a test run of our database program today and it actually works!! Hooray for us!! We meet on Friday to fine tweak it further. Girls rule!! What can I say? LOL
Number Nine and I'm struggling for thoughts again.
9) I really need to sit down and write an ad for Freecycle about "Cat free to good home". Especially with Grandson moving back in soon, she's just not a kid-friendly kitty. I can't take the risk of her scratching or biting him. She's much better off as an only pet in a child-free home.
10) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, there is nothing good on tv tonight!! So much for just chilling in front of the tube tonight. I know ... maybe I'll break out the DVDs and watch a few episodes of Keeping Up Appearances??

Gross Grub - Kitty Litter Cake

Ingredients:
1 package Spice cake mix
1 package White cake mix
1 package White sandwich cookies
1 package Vanilla pudding mix
Green food coloring
12 Small Toosie rolls
Directions:
Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions.Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to stick, so scrape often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. gently combine. Line new, clean kitty litter box. Put mixture into litter box. Put three unwrapped Toostie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter. Heat remaining Tootsie Rolls, 3 at a time in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Serve with a new pooper scooper.
Sunny Sunday ...
I think I'm going to make Sunday my "Gross Recipe" day. Sort of space things out, since I do the Ten Thoughts Tuesday and Friday Fives, too. Thinking maybe I may do diabetic or other recipes on Wednesdays, but only after the semester ends.
Married Son asked me last night to design a flyer for his recycling *business*. Well, not exactly a business, but it does generate extra income until the piloting company is up and running at full steam. So, if any of my local friends (Oakland County, MI) have any old appliances or scrap metal laying around that you want out, please let me know!! There is absolutely NO charge for Son to come pick them up!
On that ... time to go study for a bit. I'm sure I'll be back later to post the first two Gross Grub recipes!!!
Lisa's Sausage and Pierogi Dinner
One of our favorite dishes.
Ingredients:
3 lbs bratwurst, keilbasa, italian or smoked sausage
1 pkg frozen pierogi
1 can mushroom pieces (4 oz.), drained
1 Small onion, sliced
1 Green pepper, sliced (optional)
2 cans beer
flour
Directions:
Boil pierogi per package instructions. Drain thoroughly afterwards.
While the pierogi are boiling:
Boil sausage in beer until thoroughly cooked. Drain, but set aside drained beer for later. Cut sausage into bite sized pieces and place in skillet over medium heat with mushrooms, onions and green pepper until all are browned. Add pre-boiled pierogi, heating until lightly browned.
Add flour to beer liquid making a gravy of sorts. Add gravy to taste.
Variation: eliminate green peppers, onion and mushrooms from above recipe and add 1 lb. sauerkraut instead!! Yum!!

So much for studying!
As soon as they came over, Grandson took over the computer. "Paint, Grandma, me paint".
Now he's off with Alien reciting his shapes, colors and alphabet. He's taken over her notebook and pen! It's a hoot! Just gotta be involved in everything, that boy does.
As I sit here unable to study I'm listening to the two kids - my Alien and Grandson. Amazing what one not quite three year old does!! He knows how to spell his name. He knows all his shapes including diamond, stars, moons, and hearts. Knows all his alphabet and recognizes numbers. He can also count to ten without help!
Yeah, I'm bragging here!! He's one smart little boy! Daughter In Law spends a lot of time with him, obviously. As much as I doubted her mothering abilities early on, my fears and doubts have been put to rest. She's a damned good mommy. And it shows.
Oh oh ... here comes Trouble!! And he's demanding the computer back!!
"Paint, Grandma. Me paint. NOW!!"

Saturday is Study Day ...
Well, I guess the good thing about being stuck in the house today is that I'm distracted by studying. Today's the 15th anniversary of my brother's suicide. I try not to dwell on the bad, but this date just doesn't bring back many good memories.
We heard gunshots again early this morning, sometime after 1 AM. Poor Alien just about jumped out of her skin! Sad thing is that I'm getting used to it. I so wish we could locate this moron so we can turn him into the LAW. Discharging a weapon within township limits is illegal. Ass is gonna hit someone some day - he already hit the side of someone's house. Although, I have to admit, I *do* enjoy the fact that on nights the gun is fired there are no barking dogs outside afterwards! Guess their owners figure their nuisance barking dogs may be the target of the shots. And could well be. Most nights there's a dog or two left out all to bark all night long.
Have I mentioned I'm soooooo ready to move out of this hell-hole? Used to be a nice neighborhood. Years ago. You knew at least a few neighbors, even trusted one or two with your kids - or a spare key to your house. Not anymore. Strangers. Total strangers. Their kids are kept in the house - you rarely see kids outside playing even on hot summer days! Give someone a copy of your key for safe keeping? Hell no!! Not any more. And then the jerk with the gun moves in. I'm pretty sure he's the same one who shot at my cat last summer when the cat escaped from the house. No one confessed to seeing who did it - if indeed anyone did see anything, not even to the cops when they showed up! So of course, charges could never be filed on them. However, WE had to pay almost three hundred bucks for having an unlicensed cat! Oh, the cat was fine - he wasn't hit with the bullet -at least the ass with the gun seems to have bad aim - he hit a house and not my cat, but the cat is terrified now when he hears any loud noises!!
Alright ... *someone* keeps unplugging my LAN connection!! I'm guessing Single Son is working on the network computer downstairs. Has to be. I've been booted more times than when we used to have AO-hell. I mean AOL. Guess that's my cue to get off the computer and get back to studying!
Ya'll enjoy this beautiful weekend!!

Friday Five
Name 5 things you would really like to change, either with yourself, your community, your family, your country, whatever....
Copy this to your blog, including your responses, and be sure to click this link to today's Friday Five Prompt to add your link to the comments.
Thanks, and Happy Fiving!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So without further adieu ...
Five things I'd change:
1) Who the Governor of Michigan is before she kills what's left of this once great state ... nuf said ...
2) Get that idiot out of the mayor's office in Detroit. His *sex, lies, and text messages* scandal isn't helping a city with an already bad image. Among other things he's not telling the truth about ...
3) Gasoline prices!!
4) My life. LOL. Not that I'm really unhappy with it, but there's been a few bad decisions along the way that I'm trying to overcome now ... slowly but surely it's happening.
5) And I'll be damned if I can think of a fifth one at the moment ...
Photoshop User TV
Great source for photoshop how-tos.
Friday ...
In photoshop class I got my grade for my webpage design. I got 19 points out of a possible 20. I'm happy!! We're working next on animation. I sat up until 3 AM trying to figure out what my animation is going to be. Think I figured it out finally. I made the picture below for Grandson. He loves it. I'm seriously thinking that it'd be a cool animation. Farmer milking a cow (the cow will move it's head and tail) and the farmer with the pitch fork will do something (haven't figured out what yet). The clouds will move across the sky. Should be fun!!
I finally got the usb cable back from Married Son. I really need to find an extra cable or two so I'm not caught short again! Anyway, I've finally been able to get the photos off my camera. I'm still in the process of sorting them out. Did manage to get a few shots of the potholes in the neighborhood. They don't do the damn things justice. That closest one is about three feet wide. They continue further down the road, too.
Gotta love spring in Michigan. They're everywhere!!!
Alright. Enough procrastination. I need to leave. Oh, I'm sooooo not looking forward to this. I'll be back later to do my Friday Five.
Thursday Ramblings ...
Isn't April Fool's Day over?? Tell that to the lughead that tied the kitchen sink sprayer so that it'd soak the next fool that used the sink. Yup, just today and that fool was me - I got soaked!! Payback War is on!! And since no one will fess up to the prank all three of my darling children are targets for paybacks!!
I have no motivation today. Grrrrrrr.
Instead I've been browsing recipes. The family recipe book, gross grub and diabetic recipes mostly. All I know is I'm hungry now! LOL!!
