Friday Five ...

I've decided to come out of lurking (or was that a blogging break, LOL) to do this week's Friday Five. With everything going on in my life right now, dreaming a little is a nice change. So without further adieu here's the Friday Five ...

Quoting our moderator: "I want to thank Gramato7 her suggestions.  One of her suggestions  was chosen for this weeks Friday Five:

You just won the lottery, what 5 things would you like to buy... just for you... not for anyone else.

Don't forget to post your link below and link your blog back here:  Friday Five Group

Have fun out there and Happy Fiving!!
"

My Friday Five. I guess it would depend on how big the lottery prize was ... I'm assuming at least a million bucks ...

1) A new vehicle. I'm thinking a Vibe ... easy on gas consumption, cute and a bit sassy. Just like me.

2) A smaller house. I love my house but it's too big for the empty nest I'm anticipating in the next year or so. Something on Lake Huron so I can wake up to sunrises over the water. While I'm dreaming ... I'd make it a *green* home. And since I love lighthouses it would have to be near Old Presque Isle Lighthouse (my fave!).

3) A housekeeper. And if I'm living in a smaller house, she won't have to do as much, so contracting her on a once a week basis ... yup, I could have a housekeeper for the rest of my life.

4) A small store. I'd love to own a theme type store - lighthouse souvenirs and goodies that are made by local artists and craftspeople.

5) A motor home (just big enough for me and my cat to travel in). I've always wanted to travel and see the country. And IF I'm going to live in my dream house and own my dream store in the northern Lower Pennisula of Michigan - a place that sees pretty harsh winters (and little tourism in the winter) than it only seems rational that winters would be the perfect time to travel.

Friday Five ...

Since this month has mostly been about memories....let's think about fads. Those years in school when you just thought you HAD to have that one item of clothing that "everyone" was wearing? Or maybe, that everyone was wearing that you just couldn't understand why? Or some other thing going on that everyone was doing? Give us 5 fads or fashions from your school years!

Once again....wishes for a Fantastic Friday!

My parents really didn't let me follow the fads ... so this list is going to be a little bit of everything. What I had, wished I had or didn't understand what all the fuss was about ...

1) Mexican Jumping Beans. Seems like almost everyone in my upper elementary school's cafeteria had Mexican Jumping Beans just a-jumpin' on their lunch trays. Notice I say *almost*, it's a fad I just couldn't understand.

2) Any article of clothing that was tie-dyed. Of course, that was the mid- 70s ... and tie-dye was the in thing to wear. I was forbidden to wear "hippie clothing" ... but boy did I want a tie-dyed skirt and matching shirt!

3) French Jeans. Bleached blue jeans completely covered in lace. More of a boot-leg cut than the then popular wide bell bottoms. Expensive!! I drooled over a pair in one of the mall boutiques, but at $150 (1976 prices) there was NO way I'd ever own a pair!

4) Mood Rings. Had one. Back when they were ovals set on a plain band. Seems mine was usually green. Anyone remember what green means?

5) Pet Rocks!! Now there's a WTH were they thinking fad if ever I saw one!! But just goes to prove, with the right marketing you can sell just about anything! Or as my dad said when he saw someone with one "there's a sucker born every minute".

Friday Five ...

The Late George Carlin wrote a piece about "Stuff".  Your stuff, my stuff, where we put out stuff, and our attachment to our stuff.  Read here: http//www.jefallbright.net/node/1581

For this weeks Friday Five, go around your home and pick our 5 of your "stuff". However this weeks exercise will be very specific on where you get the "stuff".

1. Pick an item from your junk drawer, junk container....where ever you keep your extra "junk" that your not sure when or if you are going to need at some point in the future.

Oh where to start!! I have a junk ROOM. A place where I am storing junk as I sort and decide what I'm going to do with it ... let's see ... the first thing my eyes set upon in this room is a laundry basket filled with 28 years worth of children's books. I keep meaning to have my son take them home with him for his son ...

2. Pick a book off  your book shelf...it can be a book, magazine, newspaper...etc.

Closing my eyes and just grabbing the first book I touch ... "Soft Furnishings for Dollhouses" ... a how-to book on making all sorts of dollhouse furnishings.

3. Pick a movie that you have, you've borrowed, down loaded, stole from someone because you liked it so much you keep forgetting to give it back....

Dragnet - Season 1 - borrowed. No reason for not returning it, I borrowed it from the son who lives with me. So it's not like it'll never get back to him. Maybe that explains why he won't loan me his copy of the Cops 20 Year Anniversary Edition!!

4. Pick an article of clothing in your closet or dresser.

Doing the close the eyes and grab the first thing I touch thing again ... the college hoodie I just bought. I so can't wait for cooler weather so I can wear it!

5. Pick a food from your fridge or pantry.

Closing eyes once again ... I pull out Ramen Noodles. Yup, pretty much sums my dinner choices up. Quick and easy. No fuss, no muss.

List your 5, and tell us why you feel that "stuff" is important to you, what it says about you.

Now for a bonus pick, what is that secret guilty pleasure "stuff" that you didn't want to put on the above list because you thought it might make you look silly or strange or feel stupid for writing it and letting a bunch of folks know about?  Come up...we all have some "stuff" we don't tell everyone about!  Let's have fun!

A pantry food, LOL. There's a box of Honey Nut Cheerios sitting near me. I love munching on the dry cereal while watching late night tv.

And....all you Friday Fivers, have a fantastic weekend!

Friday Five ...

Good morning! After the last couple of weeks of memories, I started to think, other than toys and those catchy jingles...what was more fun to do?....than watch cartoons?

Growing up mom didn't give us much time in front of the TV, but we did try to get in as much Saturday morning cartoons as we could! So, what were your 5 favorite cartoon characters? And why?  Have fun, and best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I loved about growing up in the 70s is that on Saturday morning, shows like The Warner Brothers Hour or The Hanna Barbera Show ran *all* the good cartoons from "Showboat Willy" on to the current cartoons of the day.
1) The Bugs Bunny/ Road Runner Hour ... all those classic characters crammed into an hour of fun!! What could be better?
2) The Flintstones ... Fred and Wilma, Barney and Betty ... their foot powered cars made of stone, dinosaur powered appliances and vehicles ... just too cool for words.
3) The Jetsons ... my lifelong love of futuristic living, robots, computers, and more was instilled in my young little brain by George, Jane, Judy, Elroy.
4) Schoolhouse Rock... Who can forget Schoolhouse Rock? Education put to music. A lot of what I learned in those episodes will forever be burned into my gray matter.
5) Wacky Races ... I have no idea why I loved this cartoon. But I did ... guess it was the wacky cars and the silly competitiveness of the characters.
There were so many others, too. I was lucky enough to live in an area that broadcast cartoons after school every day. I'd plop down in front of the tv set until the rest of the family got home! Ahhhhhh ... those were the days!!
Friday Five ...
Good morning Friday Fivers!  Last week we had a great time remembering all the old commercial jingles, so this week I thought it would be fun to remember 5 of the toys we cherished as a child.  There were some wonderful toys back in the day, let's hear about the one you loved the most!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1) My teddy bear. I was only about six months old in this picture. The brown teddy bear was to be my constant companion through-out my childhood. He accompanied me on vacations, even as a teenager. The day I moved from my parents house into my own apartment he was there. I'm 48 now and he still holds an honored place in my home. Granted his fur has long worn away and he is thread-bare in places. But he'll always be my best bear-bud.

2) Tearful Cheerful Baby. I got this dolly around the time my little brother was born. I could feed my dolly, take care of *her*, be her mommy - all without the supervision that was needed when I was playing "mommy" to my little brother.

3) Troll Dolls. I loved these dolls. I had a lot of them, and a Troll house for them to live in. In fact, I've recently taken up collecting these dolls again!

4) Zoolery Dolls. These dolls were about 1/4 of an inch tall. They came in lockets that looked like cages that you could wear. I want to start collecting them again, but they're so rare they bring in about $100 each on eBay! That's just a little too rich for *my* blood! LOL!

And last, but not least ...

5) Barbie. I loved Barbie Dolls!! Besides my dolls and all of their clothes I also had the Barbie Townhouse, Boutique, Cafe, Camper and Airplane.

There are other toys that I played with, too. But since this is a Friday FIVE I can only list five. Right? LOL! But dolls were definitely my faves!! Yes, I loved dolls. Still do!!

Friday Five ...

This weeks Friday Five comes from Grainne. She got my toes tappin and my mind whirling...but my memory isn't what it use to be! LOL

Remember when you were a kid and those crafty marketers got all those jingles stuck in your head..."He's a honeycomb kid, givin' all he's got.." "If you believe in Peanut Butter Clap your hands..." Remember those? I noticed that today's commercials for kids and adults alike are all action, no jingles....Poor jingle writers sitting lonely in their Glendale homes obsessing over their great cereal campaigns. So...give us 5 of your favorite jingles that you remember growing up with!

I had fun finding all my faves on youtube! Enjoy!

Definitely #1 is ... the Faygo Pop Boat Song of the 1970s.

2) Detroit Zoo ...

3) Frito Bandito ...

4) Slinky ...

5) The Banana Song (Chiquita Banana) ...

This last is actually from Disney Studios circa 1940, but I remember hearing it growing up in the 60s.

Passing on the Friday Five ...

Passing on today's Friday Five ...
They have two sets of questions today ... Conflict & Resolution ... one set is just too personal for me to want to answer in a blog entry that I set for *public*. The alternative set of Friday Fives are for those who feel the way I do about the first set of questions ... Five Movies that have impacted your life ...BUT, I'm not that big of a movie fan to be able to really answer them. So ... I pass.

If you're curious as to what todays Friday Five were ... just click here ...

Friday Five ...

Wow, it's been a few days since I've been online. No reason other than the miserable heatwave and high humidity we're having and not feeling well because of it. But I'm back ... LOL ... so without further adieu ... my Friday Five entry for this week ...

Put your thinking caps on, Friday Fivers, and take on today’s challenge.  The following statements are prompts that a writing teacher (such as your humble Admin today) might use to jump start a student’s pencil.  Feel free to be as brief or elaborate as you want.  Entries will NOT be marked up for grammar & punctuation, so you needn’t worry about that!

1. What would you do if you saw a friend cheating or even breaking a law--report it, confront the friend, nothing--and why?
It really depends on what the "offense" was. I don't tolerate any type of stealing - so that would be reported. Cheating would end in confronting the friend with "you're only cheating yourself by cheating" and if it continued I would report it to the proper people. Cheating in a relationship I'd confront the friend.

2.    What do you think of someone who has bad manners? I don't like people with bad manners. There's no excuse to be ill mannered or rude to anyone. The world would be a much better place if people remembered their manners when dealing with others - whether it's at the store, work, school, home or on the road.

3.    What kind of program do you enjoy most on TV--detective shows, comedies, game shows--and why? I love detective and cop shows. From vintage shows like Ironside and Rockford Files to Cops, CSI, Cold Case and more. I also love British Comedies (Britcoms) ... Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served, Benny Hill and so many more. Why? Hmmmmm ... I've always loved cop shows - and with having a son that is a cop - it's only natural we watch a lot of cop shows, LOL. Not sure why I love Britcoms other than that I enjoy them.

4.    Should there be a dress code in places such as school, restaurants, and places of business? Why or why not? When I hear *dress code* I think of school uniforms and the dark blue suits that EDS used to require their employees wear. Uniforms in school isn't a bad idea ... have you been to a high school lately? LOL. Too many distractions for the kids. Having them in uniforms takes those distractions away and the social pressures of low income kids who just can't afford to be seen in the *right* clothing. As far as work or in restuarants ... I know personally I'm more likely to frequent a business or restaurant if the staff (and clients or patrons) are professional looking or at least care about their appearance.

5.    What makes your best friend your best friend?
Hmmm, I don't have a best friend ... I do have close friends, though. I guess what makes a best friend in my opinion is being able to trust that person with your secrets, your hopes and your dreams. Someone who is there for you during your deepest darkest hours to support you and not judge. Someone who is painfully honest when the need arises but will never critisize you. A best friend is that person who you think of first when something happens "OMG, just wait 'til he/she hears this"!! Someone who laughs at your jokes or wipes away your tears. That one person you want to be with. Most of all a best friend someone that feels the same way too.

Friday Five ...

This weeks Friday Five idea is brought to you by Grainne and is all about 5 Random Pictures.

Select 5 random photos that you've taken (you may add a description if you wish or just post the picture).

If you don't have photos saved to your computer, think of the first 5 random thoughts that pop into your head.  Then do an image search on the 5 thoughts, save the images, and post them up in your blog.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My Five Random Pictures~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 1) Where I wish I were right now ... in Port Huron, MI at my favorite park. Across the water is Canada.
2) Some *boys* never grow up!! My son, the cop ... oy vey!
3) "This is about as close as I'm going to get to the Cop Car!!" My grandson looking at his uncle's squad car recently.
4) The Police Chief's dog standing watch over the cooler at the Chief's 4th of July picnic.
5) Chief's wife had some beautiful gardens. This is a close up of one of her flowers.
Friday Five ...
A big thanks to JIMMY for suggesting this week's topic: our five favorite sports figures.  For those of you who don't follow sports, surely there are five you've seen on TV that seem pretty interesting in some way or another  (hopefully for good things and not court cases....lol).  Anyway, as usual, post your blogs to your own site, linking back to this one, and place a link to your blog below.
Happy FIVING!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1) Gordie Howe. Mr Hockey. Growing up in hockey arenas where my brothers both played, he's a natural choice as my #1 Favorite Sports Figure. In the 70s he hosted many hockey workshops and played in many an "Old-Timers" games. What a pleasure it was to see this great man on the ice with pint sized hockey players in an Old-Timer's vs. "Kids" game.

2) Steve Yzerman. Played for the Detroit Red Wings for his entire professional hockey career.

3) Vlad Konstantinow. Detroit Red Wings. Perminently disabled in a limo accident after Detroit won the Stanley Cup in 1997. He's still a much loved part of Red Wing hockey.

4) While not a professional sports figure by any stretch, I cannot go without remembering my brother, Richard. He started playing hockey at the young age of six. He played football for his High School team, baseball, BMX racing and was an avid body builder. His untimely death at the age of 25 was a shock to all who knew and loved him. Fifteen years later he's still remembered for his athletic abilities.

5) Not a specific person, but all the men and women that volunteer their time, resources and knowledge to youth sports programs. Without them many children would never have the opportunity to participate in sports - or become our sports heroes of tomorrow.

Friday Five

For this weeks Friday Five, I thought that now Summer is in full swing, we could share some of our summer time memories...good or bad!

1.  A summer I'll never forget ... The summer my ex had a contract to tear down the old beach house at the subdivision's private beach. My sons were little and we were able to enjoy the beach all summer long without having to pay the annual dues (since their daddy was excavating the beach house).

2.  As a kid, every summer we would ... When not swimming in our pool we spent a lot of the summer at my Grandmother's cottage.

3.  A summer that I regret ... I have no regrets.

4.  I loved summers as a child because ... they were carefree and uncomplicated.

5.  During the summer I enjoy ... driving to Port Huron, Michigan for a day of picnicking, ship watching and visiting the Port Huron Lightship on the St. Clair River.

Friday Five

Quoting our Friday Five moderator ... "Since this is Friday the 13th, which has been noted to be full of 'superstition', I thought I would play on that...

Superstition: old wives tale, folklore, bizarre beliefs, taboos, omens, good/bad luck.

Now, let's compare 5 superstitions that you believe in!? If you are not the superstitious type ... maybe you could name 5 of the oddest, funniest or otherwise interesting superstitions you have heard of!"

Click here for the Friday Five Multiply group.

1) When giving a knife as a gift always tape a silver coin to the blade. Not doing so will result in the relationship of the gift giver and recipient being severed.

2) Washing your car will bring rain.

3) It's bad luck to leave a house or building from a door different than the one you came in from.

4) Trim the wicks of new candles as soon as you get them. Bad luck will fall on the household if they remain untrimmed.

5) Always speak nicely of your car when you're within *hearing* range. Talking bad about it will only result in the car breaking down. Also, name your car and call it by name or "she" will feel ignored and unloved and operate badly (From my Grandmother who always talked nice about Esmerelda - the name she always gave her cars).

Friday Five

Been a while since I've done a Friday Five. No excuses ...

To quote our Friday Five Moderator: "Hi folks!  Today's topic shall be Five Favorite Modes of Childhood Entertainment!  Originally, I was going to suggest Five Favorite TV Shows from Childhood, but then I remembered perhaps not everyone was as sedentary a child as I was.  So, if you have five favorite TV shows (like I do), then feel free to use those.  Otherwise, feel free to expand to other forms of entertainment."

So without further adieu ... My Five Favorite Modes of Childhood Entertainment ... and since it's nearly summer and so hot out, I'm going to concentrate on my Favorite SUMMER activities.

1) Swimming in the pool in our backyard. From sun-up to after sun-down ... regular fish we were!

2) Bike riding. On cool days my best friend and I would take off for a day of bike riding in our huge subdivision. We'd usually come home for meals, then head out again until night fall.

3) "Camping" in the heavily wooded part of our backyard. We had a clearing for a tent and a fire pit on the more than half acre woods. We were even allowed to have small bonfires. Ah, nothing better than s'mores on a chilly summer's eve!

4) Going to our summer cottage on Houghton Lake (Michigan). Lazy summer days spent at the beach, or sailing the lake. Going into Prudenville and going through all the little antique shops my mother loved so much (and where my antique addiction began). Miniature Golf. Go-carts.

5) Cuddling up on the couch on Saturdays with my little brother and watching "The Sir Graves Ghastly Show". I still love those "B" horror and cheesy monster movies of days gone by!

Friday Five

This week's Friday Five theme is: College Days. Good theme for me as this is my third time back in college. Twice dropped out, back one last time to finally get that degree!!

1) Back in the late 70s when I first started college I went to the local community college. At that time my father worked as a civil engineer. Anyway ... the college's parking lot was (is) a nightmare. My class ended at 9 PM but I wasn't home until well after 10 thanks to losing my car in that nightmare of a parking lot. When I got home Dad asked how I liked my first day of college. I swore up and down (literally) at the "moron who designed that blankety-blank parking lot." Dad offers me his hand to shake, "I'm that blankety-blank moron. Pleased to meet you". He's never let me forget it, either!! I just started back at that very same college - different campus. His first words when he heard I was back at OCC were "don't worry, I didn't design that parking lot". Oy!!

2) Also during my first college days ... I was one of the first students in my computer programming class (BASIC language - ah, the good ol' days!!) to actually own a *home computer*. Well, my then boyfriend (later husband) owned it, but I had access to it. LOL. Part of my final exam was to have Exie-poo bring in the computer and do a "Live Demonstration* of a rather simple program I had written. Only problem is, he never showed up! He claims he forgot about needing to bring the computer in. I ended up getting an Incomplete in that class. Grrrrrrrr.

3) One of the classes I took in the 70s was Michigan History. Although I'd lived in Michigan all my life, it wasn't until this class I really studied local history. I was hooked! I really took an interest in local lore that's lasted all these years.

I dropped out of college shortly after that ... until the late 80s when I thought I'd get back to earning that degree. This second time was uneventful. Nothing stands out. My third attempt at getting my degree started two years ago. Originally I wanted to persue a degree in Architecture, but with the housing starts and forecasts the way they are, I decided to change degrees back to my original computer degree from the 70s. Web Design is where I'm headed now. Anyway ...

4) Now that I'm older and at this time sporting an umbilical hernia I used a wheeled backpack to lug my books around. Stashing it under the stairs as usual I headed out to the smoking area between my two classes that day. Next thing I know, there's campus security dashing by - definitely in a hurry. Ten or so minutes later one of them comes up to the smoking area to ask about a bookbag left under the stairs. Said someone alerted them as to a suspicious package left abandoned. Yup, it was my bookbag on wheels.

5) Photoshop class. The teacher was awesome!! We spent a lot of time after class just talking. It was she who hinted I switch my degree from web design over to something to do with digital media. Much better suited for me really. I'm so not a programmer! I've yet to be able to talk to my advisor about switching over. Stay tuned. LOL.

There's been other things that stand out ... instructors that have influenced me, friendships made and lost ... even a love interest gone bad. But these are the five that stand out the most.

5/2/08

Friday Five ...

This week's Friday five theme is : " Five Moments in High School".

It's funny that should be the theme, I was just contacted not two days ago about our 30 Year Class Reunion. Yes, thirty years!! I feel OLD!

1) Seeing "Welcome To The Grand Illusion" spray painted in black on the white stucco building. It was the first vandalism done to the almost new high school.

2) Senior Skip Day. Oy. Back when the drinking age was 18. Yup, I got plastered. Didn't want to get pulled over for drunk driving so I asked a guy I knew to drive back to the school while I sobered up. Little did I know not only did he NOT have a license (and I never thought to ask!) but he was well known by the cops! We got pulled over. I got a ticket for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive. Had to tell my folks about the ticket. Boy were they ticked off. Dad made me to go court, thinking that'd scare me. It did!!

3) "American Problems" class. Senior year. Monday through Thursdays we'd read the daily newspapers. Maybe even discuss something we'd read, but usually not. On Fridays we studied the problem of the American donut - I would bring in donuts for the class (paid for by the teacher). The teacher was the same one as in number 4.

4) In my senior year I was teachers aid to one of the social studies teachers. He was 6'8" tall. I taught the freshman civics class more often than he did!! He skipped class a lot, too. I remember getting into an argument with him in front of the class one time. Because he was so tall I climbed on a chair so I could look him in the eye and gave him a piece of my mind.

5) Senior Year. Skipping fourth hour (lunch hour) on Mondays and Fridays and heading up to McDonald's for lunch. I was also the teacher's aid for the "Child Development" teacher and was able to cut class on those days. LOL.

Okay, so I wasn't the best student back then. Really didn't give a damn about my grades, but only about cutting class whenever I could. Yup, it was the 70s ...

Friday Five

Hello everyone it's that time of the week again for Friday Five this week's theme is brought to you by kwika. This week’s theme is five things on your "to do before you die" list. It could be historical, public or personal be sure to check his page out http://kwika.multiply.com/

Hmmm, five things on my "do before I die" list ...
1) Take a long road trip in a camper. Six months or more on the road. No destination. Just get behind the wheel and drive. See the country. Visit the places my friends call home.
2) Live in a small town. Hopefully a waterfront small town. Maybe I'd find the perfect place in which to live while on that road trip.
3) Own a rat. Now, no eeewwwwws or yuuuuuuucks! Rats are great pets, they're highly intelligent and actually very friendly. A rat would be a great travel companion, too! Hehe ...
4) Visit every lighthouse on the Great Lakes. Heck why stop there?? Why not every lighthouse on both Ocean coasts, too??
5) Either marry a rich man -OR- win a multi-million dollar sweepstakes. This way I wouldn't have to worry about how I'll survive my golden years. LOL!

Friday Five ...

Hello everyone it's that time of the week again for Friday Five this week's theme is brought to you by Toni, our Friday Five host. In Toni's words ... I have worked several jobs. I'm asking we name five jobs we've had. You can find me here http://tonij16102.multiply.com/journal/item/740/Friday_FiveJobs
Copy this to your blog, including your responses, and be sure to come back here to add your link to the comments.  Also, remember we decided last week that only the weekly prompts will be posted to the Group Blog.  Any other questions, comments, or suggestions should be posted in comments or to the Group Notes.

Thanks, and Happy Fiving!

Five of the jobs I've worked:

1) Floral Cart. It was an old, antique push cart. Luckily it was stationary, sitting in the middle of a mall, long before kiosks were all the rage. We sold fresh cut and dried floral arrangements. Even our cash register was an antique. Met my first ex-husband while working here in the mid-70s.

2) I worked for a hospital inventory company. From bedpans to syringes. Aspirin to wheelchairs. I compared inventoried items to computer readouts, looking for indescrepancies - back before the task was computerized. Late 70s.

3) Crossing guard. Possibly the most dangerous job I've ever had or will have. There were those who didn't respect that there were little kids crossing the busy street. I've had some real close calls, being lightly grazed by some idiot in too big of a hurry more than once. Also one of the most fun jobs I've had. The kids were all real sweet. Late 80s.

4) Mystery shopper. Posing as a customer I'd go in with a list of things to watch for from store cleanliness to adequate stock on shelves to friendliness of employees. I'd report back to my company who in turn would submit my reports to the stores. My favorite job!! I did this for about ten years - mid 80s to mid 90s.

5) Comparative shopper. I would go into competing stores with a list of items and find if our store had them for a lower price. When I did find lower prices I had notify my district supervisor so we could lower our prices. Mid-90s.

Friday Five

This week's prompt is brought to us from our Friday Fiver, Bren, check out her site here.

Name 5 things you would really like to change, either with yourself, your community, your family, your country, whatever....

Copy this to your blog, including your responses, and be sure to click this link to today's Friday Five Prompt to add your link to the comments.

Thanks, and Happy Fiving!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So without further adieu ...
Five things I'd change:
1) Who the Governor of Michigan is before she kills what's left of this once great state ... nuf said ...
2) Get that idiot out of the mayor's office in Detroit. His *sex, lies, and text messages* scandal isn't helping a city with an already bad image. Among other things he's not telling the truth about ...
3) Gasoline prices!!
4) My life. LOL. Not that I'm really unhappy with it, but there's been a few bad decisions along the way that I'm trying to overcome now ... slowly but surely it's happening.
5) And I'll be damned if I can think of a fifth one at the moment ...
Friday Five - a day late
This week's theme and questions were provided by Jacklyn705, click here to go to her page.
February 1 is Groundhog's Day . . . this week's questions are a "Groundhog Day" theme based on the movie, which involves things you wish you could do over just like Bill Murray does in the film:
For those of you not familiar with the movie, click
here.
1) Name one place you have been that you wish you could wake up as a pleasant surprise.
The cottage my family owned when I was a kid. Waking to the sound of my parents quietly talking over a cup of coffee, or Grandma in the kitchen getting our breakfast ready. Waking to the familiar and comforting smell of the old cedar panelled cottage, the pine trees and coffee brewing in the old coffee pot on the stove. The sounds of the breeze, birds chirping, Grandma's voice softly singing her favorite songs.
2) Name one song that you wouldn't mind playing every single morning when you wake up.
Blue Highway by Neil Diamond
3) Name one person you would like to have a do-over with as he does with Andie McDowell's character.
Not so much a do over as maybe another few days with my brother. I'd tell him all the things I regret never having told him while he was alive. Oh, he knew I loved him, we said "I love you" all the time ... but to have had that chance to say it one last time. To just have the chance to talk with him once again (if only briefly) about my hopes, dreams, fears ...
4) Name one decision you've made that you'd revise if you could.
Having dropped out of college when I was younger. It's a decision that's effected my entire adult life. Sure, I'm back in college almost three decades later but I wonder if my life and that of my children's would have been easier and happier had I gotten that degree way back when and had a real career instead of just jobs that brought in low wages.
5) If you had the chance to know what your day held, would you want to? Why or why not?
Probably not. Whether it be a good day or a bad day ... knowing would remove some of the challenges, the surprises each day brings.
Friday Five
This week's theme is SOMETHING MORE . . . there are things and events in life that make such an impact and difference in the quality of our lives or enriching and fulfilling us as in a dream job or a special gift of little monetary value rich in sentiment . . . something more that was missing before.
Elaborate as much or as little as you want!
1. My "something more" as a child . . . my teddy bear. I was six days old when I recieved *Teddy* as a Christmas gift from my grandparents. Teddy was to be my companion on many an adventure. He traveled to D.C. with my dad and I on a business trip, got to meet our Congressman, and toured the Smithsonian with us. He's ragged and torn, but now takes up a place of honor in my home.
2. My "something more" as a teenager . . . memories of my two brothers playing hockey. I was probably their biggest fan! I went to every one of their games, even went to almost all of their practices (even those 4 am practices)! I'd have a cold drink waiting for them after they got off the ice, and I'd carry their gear bags out to the car. I'd yell and scream myself hoarse cheering them on!!
3. "Something more" from my school days . . . Summer vacations!! We had a summer cottage up in Houghton Lake. Many, many fond memories of taking the sailboat out, of going "to town" to shop at the quaint gift shops, or play putt-putt golf, or ride the go-carts. Going with Grandma to Dairy Queen late in the evening for an ice cream cone. Lazy summer days of being just kids - of not having a care or worry in the world.
4. My "something more" as an adult . . . wow, narrow it down to one experience, eh? I can't ... I guess my something more would be my ability to laugh at life, especially when it's at its worse. Life is just too short to take seriously all the time!!
5. My future "something more" . . . To overcome the obstacles I've been given ... to start my own business out of state ... to continue to grow and to finally prosper. It's been a long journey. But it'll happen ...
