Pillsbury Doughboy Obituary

Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop N. Fresh died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71.

Known to friends as Brown-n-Serve, Fresh was an avid gardener and tennis player. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Skippy. The graveside was piled high with flours as longtime friend Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who "never knew how much he was kneaded."

Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes -- conned by those who buttered him up.

Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and another bun in the oven. The funeral was held at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Just stuff ...

Gas was turned back on yesterday evening. Late. So nice to have heat back in the house. I even took a nice long hot bath in celebration. Ahhhhhh ...

We were assigned our groups the other day in Accounting class. Study a company, any company - from large to small, profitable to losing money. I decided to pretty much take charge of the group. Figure that I don't want to be at the mercy of a nincompoop as group leader. Especially since this freaking group thing makes up a whole third of our grade. We're about two weeks ahead of the other groups - we've not only collected contact information, but have chosen our company to study - Google. Hopefully we can keep up this pace and stay ahead of the game. Would reduce our stress levels a lot. LOL.

I got really sick of my Multiply theme. Wanted something springy. I'm sooooo ready for winter to end!

Nothing else going on ... pretty dull around here ... thankfully!

Wednesday Thoughts ...

1) Well geesh, I forgot another Tuesday's thoughts. Probably a good thing, didn't have ten thoughts yesterday. I'm sure I could have dug 'em up, but it would have been a stretch.

2) I'm freakin' froze! Some oversight (not on my part, really) caused the gas bill to go unpaid and 30 days past due. Thus ... the gas was shut off two days ago. The only thing keeping me warm is my anger over the whole situation ... I pay my share of the bills on time. I can't understand why the bills I'm not responsible for go to collection (or shut off).. Of course, now that I've been handed the money to pay the bill it's too late to go pay it today. So ... another night of shivering. Tomorrow morning I'll pay the bill myself - which may make me late for class and I have a test tomorrow. At least the bill payment center is on the way to school - I pass it daily. Oh yeah, and the new policy around here is - you give me the money for your share of the bills a week before they're due and I WILL PAY THEM. This is twice in two years this has happened!! Ain't gonna happen again. No sirree!

3) Ah yes ... if I had ever forgotten, this is reminder on why I want the empty nest. No one would live with me, then I'd know if the bill went unpaid ... or ... really ... they'd be paid on time. And I'd be sitting in a warm house when the outside temps are around 20.

4) So ... thought I'd head up to Sears today to charge a space heater on my card. Ha! That wasn't meant to be. Seems that Sears closed my account. It had been over a year since I charged anything on it ... thirteen months to be exact. At the 12 month mark they closed the damned account. And they won't reopen it for me. I have to re-apply for a charge card. With a recent bankruptcy on my record, I highly doubt they'll give me a new account - especially considering I'm still waiting on the final *release of debt* papers that will be required for any charge account I open for the next few years.

5) Still no sign of the missing Shiloh. And it looks like Shamira isn't preggers. Bummer for  Shiloh's going AWOL. A big YAY for Shamira.

6) On the bright side ... the PITA problem is under control, at least this week. LOL. Because of the snow storm I drove myself (instead of having Single Son drop me off) and the parking lots were still un-plowed so I decided to park where I normally do (nice and close to the building). PITA showed up about twenty minutes late for class (damn, I was hoping she'd be missing and I wouldn't have to deal with it). And I only had to tell one itsy-bitsy white lie. I told her I couldn't take her home as I wasn't going that way. She had the nerve to ask if 1) I would be able to detour (Sorry, the roads are bad, I can't) and 2) she could borrow $2 (which I didn't give her). I guess she figured I'd drive her home so she didn't worry about the bus fare back. Just to justify my little white lie I did take a different route home. Right to the Sears store.

7) Did I mention I'm freezing? Two pairs of socks ... two sweaters ... heavy blue jeans ... and when I'm not typing my knitted gloves are on my frozed fingers. There's a felt scarf hanging around my neck. A candle on my keyboard tray (there's room, really!!) offers a quick warm up when I need one. All I want right now is some warmth ... ah ... a HOT bath sounds sooooooo good!

8) I'm ready for spring! I'm even ready for baseball season ... and I don't like baseball. We had a guest speaker in class today. One of the owners and managers of a Frontier League MiLB (minor league baseball) team called the Waterford Cruisers. Or ... they will be the Cruisers once they've moved to Waterford. Their baseball park is being built just down the road from here, in the all but abandoned Summit Place Mall that I've blogged about in the past on my old 360 blog. Summit Place is practically a ghost town now. It'll be nice to have a long term revenue (and job) generating operation in the area. I was really impressed with this guy - and the year round plans they've made for the park! It's going to bring a lot of hope to a dying area. Yeah, it could very well make a baseball fan out of me yet!

Here's an article in today's local paper ... Cruisers Baseball Academy To Open Soon.

And they're talking about public stock available sometime this year ... hell yeah! Count me in! These guys are investing in my community, you bet your sweet arse I'll invest in them.

9) Number nine and the thoughts are dwindling. Or ... are they frozen deep within me? Not sure ... all I know is they aren't coming to me. Hmmmmm, a little family gossip, I guess ... I've blogged in the past about my Aunt Silly. Her husband is in the hospital. Has been for quite some time. He's a pace-maker patient, has spinal stenosis (painful spine condition) and heavens knows what else. He's had some weird reaction to his meds ... he's been hallucinating something awful. Pretty scary stuff. So, please, I'm asking for him and Aunt Silly that you include him in your prayers.

10) Off to study. Have a test tomorrow in Stress Management class. Better open the book and read it, eh? No stress, though, it's an open book test. A quick read of the three chapters should be about all I'll need. I hear her tests are pretty darned easy, too. Still, I best go read the material, eh?

Boy, 14, dupes police, patrols Chicago for 5 hours

CHICAGO – A 14-year-old aspiring police officer donned a uniform, walked into a Chicago police station and managed to get an assignment — patroling in a squad car for five hours before he was detected, police said Sunday.

The boy did not have a gun, never issued any tickets and didn't drive the squad car, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Dugan said.

Assistant Superintendent James Jackson said the ruse was discovered only after the boy's patrol with an actual officer ended Saturday. Officers noticed his uniform lacked a star that is part of the regulation uniform.

Police said they were investigating how the deception went undetected for so long in what they described as a serious security breach. Police said disciplinary steps are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.

Police didn't identify the boy because of his age. He has been charged as a juvenile with impersonating an officer.

Dugan said the boy looks older than 14 and was motivated by a desire to be an officer, not malice or "ill intent."

The boy once took part in a Chicago program for youth interested in policing, so he would have been familiar with some procedures, perhaps helping him blend in, police spokeswoman Monique Bond said.

Phone Scam

Well, it's that time of the year ...

The phone rings ... "I'm Josh and I'm calling for the Police Benevolent Fund in (this) County. We realize times are hard, but we need to collect (a certain) amount of dollars for needy children in the area. For a contribution now of only $15 you can help these children. We'll even send you a County Sheriff's Department bumper sticker showing your support. Vehicles with these bumper stickers tell the local authorities you support *their* Benevolent Fund. It's no guarantee you won't get a ticket, but it could help in the event you're pulled over". The call went on and on ...

I asked him to send me information and I'd look it over before making my donation. While he didn't flat out refuse, he did skirt the issue by emphasizing the support sticker and that it was *only* $15. He never would commit to sending out information without my first making a nominal donation of $15.

Needless to say, I told him IF I donate it will be directly through the Sheriff's Department. That personally I thought he's running a damned scam based on his refusal of sending me information before making a donation. Oh, how I wish I had caller ID on my phone, I'd have called the local PD and told them about it!

First of all ... never give out any of your personal information to any one who calls you, no matter how sincere they may seem. This goes, too, for someone calling you claiming to be from your bank ... call them back at a number you have (or look up yourself!!)

Second ... ASK for information to be sent to you. I refuse to give my address. After all, they called me ... they must have some sort of record on hand. If not, oh well ...

Third ... Police Benevolent Funds (or Societies), and The Fireman's *whatever* fund do not solicit donations over the phone.

Fourth ... Anyone claiming (or insinuating) special *powers* with a police or fire department support sticker for your vehicle are ... well, they're full of crap.

When in doubt decline. If it's a charity you really want to support - YOU APPROACH THEM! Police and Fire Departments will be able to tell you where your donations can be made (if you call, just be sure to use their non-emergency business numbers).

And yes, I got the above phone call today ...

Saturday Six ...

1) Daddy's home from the hospital. Actually got home last night, around dinner time. Mom says she *forgot* to call me. Geesh. Thankfully it wasn't a heart attack ... it was some type of reaction to the blood pressure meds Daddy had been on for the last four or so months. They put him back on his old prescription blood pressure meds and all is well again.

2) Shiloh, the cat, has run away. Got out last night when Married Son left for work. We searched and searched. No sign of him. So that leaves Shamira (if we can't find Shiloh) as the only cat in the house. And she's letting everyone know she's not happy about it. Oh ... and we think she may be pregnant, too! Yup, Shiloh had to do the nasty ... with his own sister for Pete's sake. Yuck.

3) I started drinking coffee again. Haven't had a Diet Mt. Dew in a few days. I'm feening for some Dew, I tell ya! I'm thinking it's not the flavor I miss so much as the little bubbles!! And no, I'm not gonna carbonate my coffee! Yuck!

4) Had a heat wave yesterday ... 39 degrees!! I had to run to campus to pick up my back-ordered textbook. Took my regular jacket with me. I ended up having to take it off, I was actually sweating in it. I never even turned on the car's heater. Geesh ... that's pathetic that 39 degrees would feel so hot!! Temps today back down to a more comfy 14 degrees.

5) Speaking of jackets ... I had a varsity jacket I seldom wore, $10 at Steve and Barry's ... DIL has a beautiful rather feminine leather trench-length coat she never wears, $250 from the local leather shop. We traded. I'm loving it. And she's loving the warm varsity jacket.

6) LOL ... Alien has this tag line she uses a lot.  "I swear there is a tattoo on my forehead that only guys can see that says 'I like Assholes'. How do I get it off?" It fits me, too ... only substitute the word classmates for her "guys" ...

Don't know why I did all the faces today ...

Friday ...

I've determined my family is odd. Oh wait ... that was thirty years ago I figured that one out!!

Mom calls me this afternoon. Chatty ... doesn't tell me until five or so minutes into the conversation that Daddy is in the hospital. Um ... is it me, or should that have been the first thing we talked about? The way she tells it ... last night they're watching tv and Dad makes a weird grunting/grasping sound. Mom asks what's wrong ... Daddy says he's having chest pains. Mom says she's going to take him to the local clinic, Daddy says no. "Why not?" Mom asks him. "Because my underwear is dirty" he says. Oy vey!! "So change them and let's go. I don't want your headstone to say 'Here he lays because he refused to go to the hospital saying that his skivvies were dirty".

It really is funny when you think about it. The skivvies, that is ... not the chest pains.

They got to the clinic at about 10 PM. The clinic treated him for the pains and then transported him to the hospital so they could do some stress tests on him. The hospital decided to keep him for a day or two for observation, given his history with strokes and heart attacks. Mom says he's doing well, and does not want family there to visit him. He hates when we all make a fuss over him like that. I won't go today, but if they admit him tomorrow I will head on up to visit him. Or is that harass him? He's hell on those poor nurses (flirts with them). Someone needs to keep him in line. LOL.

Part of the phone conversation with Mom had to do with my soon opening my store, Elsie's Attic. I'm still rather stunned that Mom's being as supportive as she is. I would have expected "it's too risky" or "with this economy do you think it's a good idea to do this right now" but, no, she's been very supportive of the business. Daddy, well he's always been supportive of my plans and dreams. I'm about six weeks away from opening the store ... and Mom couldn't be more excited for me. Only complaint Mom has is because it's an internet business she'll have to learn to use the computer if she wants to shop at Elsie's Attic. I haven't yet told her I will have old-fashioned paper catalogs, too ... those are only reserved for the non-computer people I know (and there are quite a few of them)!

The rest of the phone conversation had to do with good ol' family gossip. The stuff I'll spare you! Really. It's rather dull if you don't know who's who. LOL!

The *kids* are bringing in more boxes today. I've been ordered to stay out of their way until further notice.

Guess I should get back to homework, eh? Since I'm grounded to my room anyway ... LOL

Thursday's Thoughts ...

Actually I think I have figured out the solution to the *taxi* problem ... I had thought about telling her what Helen suggested but since she lives pretty much on my way home (and she knows it), it won't work. Instead, I'll be parking in a different lot, across campus so she can't see the car, LOL! Really not convenient, but hell, I could use the exercise - besides, since my trip to Chicago I've rediscovered I actually enjoy walking - good excuse to get moving, eh? Anyway ... I'll park across campus and tell her that I'm sorry, I won't be able to give her a ride home since I'm waiting on my son to come get me. By the time I walk to the other end of campus she won't be able to see that I'm getting into my own car. LOL! I know, it's not truthful, but I hate confrontation and telling someone I feel they're nothing but a leech is confrontational in my book. So ... the lesser of two evils is the little white lie. And technically I'm not lying anyway ... it's not my car, my mom owns it! LOL! Yeah, a stretch to justify lying but hell ... works for me.

Stress management went real well today. Lots of notes. First test is next week. No stress there, the test is open book because of all the technical questions (theories, health, etc). I'll read the chapters again to be sure I know where to find the answers. No sense going into it blind and having to hunt down the answers. This way, too, maybe I won't need the book to answer most (if not all) of the questions.

Ran into another potential PITA today in stress class, too. She wasn't in class last week. Sat next to me this week. Before she's even got her note paper or pen out she's handing me a religious book ... one of those Little Words for Mom type books (the name escapes me at the moment). Okay now, those who know me well know I'm not religious but I am spiritual - I follow more of the Wiccan ways than anything else (respect Mother Earth ... do no harm ... healing herbs and stones ... Celtic talisman, etc.) ... and here is this gal who is pushing her beliefs at me in book form. After class she hands me the book again telling me "Pick a passage, it's your theme for today". Alrighty, I do respect others beliefs and I'm sure not going to offend her by pushing the book back at her, so I open a page ... read the text and had to smile ... the passage went something like "Be firm, but not forceful, in your beliefs". Other than that ... she was a very active participant in class ... some of her comments really made the other students think and get a little more involved in class discussions.

Had a strange compliment from *Coach* (the Prof) today ... I guess she felt that The Book Lady, the above mentioned gal, and I both have strong pubic speaking voices and can be heard and understood by the entire class when we're talking ... Coach said she wished she had either of our voices. Little does she know that if I had to stand up in front of a class as long as she does, and talk that long, I wouldn't have a voice left by the end of the day!!

Coach also assigned "buddies" today. Exchange email addresses and phone numbers In case one misses class so they can get the notes or whatever. Guess who I got as a buddy? Yuppers ... The Book Lady. LOL! I'm fine with it, just so long as she doesn't start calling me and preaching anyway ...

K ... off to watch some television. I have to pick a commercial for Marketing class and write a paper about it. Should be fun ...

Ten Thoughts ... Wednesday?

I so forgot yesterday was Tuesday! So I'm really not gonna even try to collect ten thoughts.

Had class last night at 6 PM. Never made it to class. Not that I didn't try, I did!! Got all my homework done and left about 5 PM for school. Got there at 5:30, drove around FOUR different parking lots until ten minutes until 7. Finally said screw it and left. An hour and a half, can you believe it? And still didn't find a parking spot!! Thought I had one once or twice, but as I'm sitting there with my turn signal on waiting for the other vehicle to back out, some arse-hole pulls in ahead of me - forget the fact I had waited and waited for those spots. So ... next week I leave the house at 4 and get a damned spot.

Got home real early, needless to say, LOL ... did some more homework between Grandson's invasions and Single Son coming in to bother me (he was bored yesterday, grrrrr). Totally forgot about blogging!

I think I've found this semesters PITA (pain in the arse). You know how I seem to collect one each semester ... yup ... barely week two of the term and here we go.

She's in my marketing class. She's nice enough (in small doses) ... but she's got those pest-like qualities. Last week we went a little long for class and she missed the public transportation bus because of it. She asked me if I could give her a ride home. Because it's on my way home (sort of), I said yes. That drive of four miles I found out the story of how she came to live in the area and how she lost custody of her two kids and what she's got to do in order to see them on visitation days. At least she was polite and said thank you when I pulled into her driveway. Today I was asked again if I could drive her home. I found out all about her health issues today. Geesh. I had noticed she pulled out a few dollars from her purse, thinking to myself "good, she'll offer to pay a buck or two for gas". Nope. "Stop at the gas station so I can buy a pack of smokes". No "can you" or "please" ... and certainly no offer to help out with my gas. Funny thing is, if she said something like "can I give you a dollar or two towards gas", I'd probably have said no. Well, if she'd have at least remembered her manners, that is. So we'll see how this goes and if I'll actually need to remind her that I'm in class for my education and not to be her own personal *free* taxi.

Just one question. How the hell do I attract these people?

After I dropped her off at her house I had to go to the other campus and pay for my text book for my government class. Books still aren't in, but today is the cut off date for financial aid. It's either pre-pay on the book or don't get the book until the rebate check comes in sometime next month. I don't see a choice. I need the book as soon as I can get it ... not when the class is almost half over. I hear from the manager of the bookstore that they should be in tomorrow. Great, that means another 15 mile drive from campus to campus to pick up the book. Oh well, when ya need it, ya need it.

Tonight it's finishing reading the text for tomorrow's class - Stress Management. Married Son, DIL and Grandson will be gone this evening. Woo Hoo!! That means I can study uninterrupted! That is, unless Single Son gets bored again tonight and wants to hang out with Mommy. And here I thought adult children could keep themselves entertained. I guess not. LOL!

Hoping ya'll are having a great day ...

1/19/09

Monday ...

First full day of the *Occupation*

Started with Grandson POUNDING on my bedroom door at ... I don't know what hour ... "Gramma, wake up." Thankfully Single Son was also awake, heard the pounding and came running (he forgot they were here, LOL).

He rescued me by putting in one of his DVDs in the DVD player in his room ... Fraggle Rock!! Oh how I love the Fraggles!

And where is Married Son or DIL you ask? DIL's at work ... Married Son is in his room, sound asleep!! I had to actually force myself to remember he was up all night - working from 11 PM until about 6 AM when I heard him come in.

However ... we're going to have to figure something out here. And quick before my sanity (or homework) suffers!

I keep telling myself it's only the first full day they've been here. That we'll fall into a routine soon. That may be true ... but ... and as much as I love Grandson ... that routine will not include being taken advantage of as a live-in babysitter.

Alright ... they're quiet downstairs in Single Son's room ... Grandson is really getting into Fraggle Rock ... I'm loving this ...

Time to step away from the computer and finish reading Chapters 1 and 2 of my Business Law textbook.

What Little Sanity I Had Left ...

... just went flying out the window ...

It's official ...

Married Son, DIL and Grandson moved in today
(well actually yesterday as I'm writing this after midnight).

They'll be moving things in all week, I'm sure.

... there goes my peace and quiet ...

Let the blogs begin
(as I'm sure they will give me lots of blogging materials soon enough)

A fun little word game. (Solution Added)

This is the game we did in Stress Management class today. See how many of these you can get. There's no scoring system. This is just for fun! I got 14, class average was 8. Teacher said she only got 4 of these the first time she did it. Answers to follow tomorrow evening.

Each statement below contains the initials of words that make it correct. For example: 16 = O in a P can read as *16 Ounces in a Pound".

1.  26 = L of the A
2.  7 = W of the A W
3.  1001 = A N
4.  12 = S of the Z
5.  54 = C in a D (with the Js)
6.  9 = P of the SS
7.  88 = K on a P
8.  32 = D F at which W F
9.  18 = H on a G C
10. 13 = S on the A F
11. 90 = D in a R A
12. 200 = D for P G in M
13. 6 = L on an I
14. 50 = W T L Y L

16. 24 = H in a D
17. 1 = H on a U

23. 40 = D and N of the G F
24. 12 = M of the Y
25. 50 = S on the A F
26. 4 = L on a F L C
27. 12 = D of C

Deer on Campus

Little of this and a little of that today ... Married Son will not be bringing the dog with him when they move (yeah!!). They left him alone overnight the other night (the dog not the son). He practically destroyed their kitchen. What he didn't destroy he pooped on. DIL has posted an ad on Freecycle hoping someone will take him. I feel for Grandson, though ... a little boy and his puppy are being separated. Married Son has moved the cat over here, though. Looks like the big move will happen within the next week or two. Then the chaos begins. LOL ...

School ... I blogged about my Monday classes. Need to catch up on the other three. LOL. Tuesday was Business Law. Not a bad class. Teacher is a retired lawyer. I'll call him Mr. Law from here on out. He's another rambler, but had some really neat stories about some of the cases he had represented in court. But, it really was a blow-off day, as most first days are. And he's really enthusiastic about law ... so I guess it's all good. Lots of bookwork in the class. But tests sound rather easy ... scantron test (multiple choice). We didn't do the introduce yourself thing, guess he doesn't want to know who his students are or what they are interested in. LOL!

Wednesday was Marketing Theory. Talk about an interesting class. Mr. Marketing (instructor, not his real name, btw) is a wanna-be comedian and a major sports fan. Lots of assignments, mostly in-class work, including the dreaded group presentations. Grrrrrr. Mr. Marketing had the most interesting "introduce yourself" session. Questions were typical at first ... name, degree, why are you in this class, what job you work, special talents and hobbies you have, tell us something personal about yourself, etc. He had a *fun* question ... "if you could live the rest of your life in a movie, what movie would you live in and why". After you introduced yourself, classmates were free to ask you any question they wanted. My intro started typical, name and all that stuff. Then I went on to say, "My special talents include surviving raising my three children, and being grandma to a 3 year old grandson (he interrupts here with "we'll talk later, I have two young sons that confuse me and would love the input of an experienced parent". I don't know if I'm best qualified, after all, look at my weird kids. Anyway, back to my confessions, LOL ... ). I'm also a certified Trekkie, belonging to Starfleet" - blah blah blah as I further explained what Starfleet is. (Insert giggles from classmates here). "If I could live in a movie, I'd live in any of the Star Trek movies". Questions? LOL! I had a bunch of them, more than most of the others in class, too funny. Mr Marketing is also the only teacher so far that's actually gone on to lecture, deciding not to blow off the first day. Another fun class I suspect. He kept his first lecture lively.

Today was Stress Management. Started off rather well. I had pulled into the parking lot with time to spare. Figuring I'd have a quick smoke before heading into class so I stayed in the car for a bit to keep warm while I smoked. Off to my left I see some movement in the distance. I look over to see what it is. It's a deer! Now, remember, I live in what is pretty much a city ... I don't see a lot of wildlife outside of the rodent population (squirrels, field mice, raccoons, and an occasional chipmunk). So of course I was excited!! I grabbed my camera and just started taking pictures. Walked into class this morning totally relaxed. Teacher prefers being called *Coach* as she's been a long time basketball coach. We did the usual intro exercises. Name, major, and something unique about yourself. Care to fathom a guess as to what I said? Yup ... Star Trek. Stress Management, nope this class won't be too difficult either. A textbook, some relaxation techniques, some physical activity. We're to keep a journal for two weeks and 10 hours community service (with presentation afterwards). She said we can get creative with our journals (goodie)! I stopped at the dollar store after class and bought a dark blue scrapbook. I'm gonna keep me a sort of "Captain's Log" (star trek naturally - but mine will have to be a chief warrant officers log, LOL). Even bought some spacey stickers to liven it up a bit. LOL! We did a really neat puzzle type exercise that I'll blog later. I have to type it out first.

Got home to Single Son telling me to call my mother. Guess Daddy fell getting into bed at about 1 AM and Mom had to call 911 to get him off the floor. Heaven knows she's unable to do it. I just got off the phone with him. He's fine. Bruised his pride more than anything else.

Wow, I haven't said this in a while ... off to do homework.

Class, Fender Benders and a few Photos ...

K, we'll start with the over-due picture of me and the new do ...

Not the best picture, but here ya go ... this was just minutes after I walked out of the hair cut place a few days ago. I've had a chance to wash and play with it ... looks similar, but more *messy*. I like it!!

Today ... decided to leave a few hours early to get my book for my one and only class at the one campus. Pulled into the parking lot. It was crowded!! I passed a parking spot so I backed up ... right into the trailer hitch of a huge pick-up truck! Didn't do jackschitt to his truck, didn't even disturb the dirt on his hitch. Pulled the bumper off my car, though.

Nice job, eh? Spent about 45 minutes farting around with Campus Police. Most of that time spent waiting on them. Since I didn't have a cell phone with me, I had to go search out a phone so I could call them. Found one about in the middle of campus. That added another fifteen minutes to my day. We met up in that part of campus, they drove me to my car. First time I've ever been in the back seat of a cop car!! Better be my last, too! Mad dash to the bookstore afterward. They were sold out of the textbook for class. I'm on a waiting list, as is most of my class I was to find out later.

So ... classes ... they went well. My Monday Day class, American Government, went good. Teacher is a hoot, but rambles on and on. Grades are easy ... three tests each worth 30% of the final grade. An in-class writing assignment worth 10% rounds out the graded assignments. Three extra credit points available at 3 points each. First extra credit assignment already done - prove you're a registered voter. Easy enough. LOL! He dismissed us early. Great ... head up for a quick drive-thru sandwich and on to the other campus for books.

Riiiiiight. Ten minutes to grab the text books I need. An hour and a half wait in the financial aid line to pay for them. But dammit, I have all the books I need for my home campus. Four textbooks. $485 worth of books! Talked to some idiot in line most of the time. She's bragging about how she bought a laptop at the school bookstore with her financial aid. Only, it comes time for her to pay for her books, she's got less than 50 cents left on her financial aid account. Doih!! Spent about ten minutes bitching up a storm because they wouldn't offer her more aid to get her textbooks. Dope!! By the time I got out of the bookstore I had fifteen minutes to get the car and move it to the other side of the campus before class started. Didn't really need to bust my arse, the instructor was fifteen minutes late for class, Intro to Business Accounting. Geesh. But it's understandable, I guess. He is a last minute replacement for the teacher that called only this morning to say he couldn't teach this semester.

Not sure what to think of this replacement teacher. He did good at winging it. I mean, the guy had no idea he'd be teaching this class when he woke up this morning and there he stood in front of 25 students this evening. He's definitely taught Accounting in the past. Just never an intro class. He seems to have a good sense of humor ... and the attitude that he's not going to teach us everything the text covers, but we'll leave class in 15 weeks with a basic knowledge of business accounting. I did have to let out a moan, though, when he said those dreaded words "group assignment". Damn. I hate group projects!

Tomorrow evening is Business Law I. Wednesday morning is Marketing Theory. Thursday morning is Stress Management.

Boy, I coulda used stress management today!! My poor car!

Sunday Stuff ...

So, tomorrow starts the new semester. I'm soooo not ready. Didn't get my textbooks yet. I'll try to get them all tomorrow - Tuesday at the latest. Nothing like showing up for the first day of class with no textbooks. At least I have paper, pencils and scantrons.

Let's see ... what else ...

I'm going to have to find a new home for Shiloh. Since Ringo's been gone, Shiloh has figured out he's finally the KING of the house. You know what that means - he's marking his territory! Grrrrrrrrrr. So, now it's looking for a new place for him. I'm praying he's out by Friday. I just can't handle it.

Then there will be NO more pets. Well ... Married Son's pets (once he finally moves in), but they leave when Son and DIL move out. Oh ... and he and DIL will have to take full responsibility for them. Including the cost of feeding and cleaning up after them. And heaven help those pets destroy anything in the house. I hear that Hondo (the dog) is a chewer ... this could get interesting!

Hmmmm ... what else? Ah yes. Went out with the folks a few days ago for my *belated birthday and good report card* dinner. Ya ... I'm 49 and still being rewarded for good report cards! LOL! We went to Red Lobster. Had a shrimp and scallop dinner. Don't remember what it was called, but damn it was good! I was really surprised that Mom went, too. She usually tells me she's not hungry and to just take Daddy out to dinner. Glad she did go, we had fun.

We all had a good laugh at my expense. Daddy was asking a bunch of questions about the Star Trek club and my involvement in it. Later he asked me what I was going to do with the birthday money my brother had given me. Told him I'm looking for a Star Trek Cookbook and will spend Brother Deere's gift of money on that. "A Star Trek cookbook? WTF, do they tell you how to cook Martians?"

Because the snow storms had started while we were out, I had to call Mom to tell her I got home okay after I dropped them of at their condo. "Daddy and I are still laughing. The thought of you in some Star Trek costume is just too much". I'm really tempted to ask if they want to come along to a full costume event. Really freak 'em both out to see so many Trekkies.

Got my hair cut the other day, too. Tried to take a few pics, but didn't like the double chin that was showing (you know how that goes - stretch out your arm and try to take a pic of yourself. They never come out good). I'll try to get up a pic or two - even if it's the double chinned pics - within the next few days. Anyway ... I now have really short hair. And I love it!

Bunch of snow on the ground, too. Eight to ten inches. Alien had called to say she wanted to stop by the house for a few minutes to pick up some mail. I had told her to hurry up because I had to get my med refills today before the pharmacy closed. She volunteered to take me up to the store. I said sure why not. Then it dawned on me ... Oy!! Alien has her driver's license! Warned her about the street - snow covered and not plowed. A mess, as usual. "I can handle it, Mom" ... riiiiiiiiiiiight. I give her credit, she only got stuck a few times - and nothing she wasn't able to eventually get out of either.

Not a whole lot else going on. Just a lot of snow ... and homework season starts tomorrow ... and Star Trek ... and the typical things that fill my life.

Off for an early shower and early to bed.

Don't Mess with a Fairy ...

A married couple in their early 60s was celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in a quiet, romantic little restaurant.

Suddenly, a tiny yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table.

She said, "For being such an exemplary married couple and for being loving to each other for all this time, I will grant you each a wish."

The wife answered, "Oh, I want to travel around the world with my darling husband."

The fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! - two tickets for the Queen Mary II appeared in her hands.

The husband thought for a moment: "Well, this is all very romantic, but an opportunity like this will never come again. I'm sorry my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me."

The wife, and the fairy, were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish. So the fairy waved her magic wand and poof!...the husband became 92 years old.

The moral of this story:
Men who are ungrateful bastards should remember fairies are female.

Ten Thoughts Tuesday ...

1) Still fighting this cold or flu or whatever it is. Think I'm finally winning. I haven't sneezed in a whole half hour now, LOL!

2) I really need to run up to the campus bookstore and get my textbooks. The semester starts next week and I'm not prepared. I know it's probably too late to snag up any good used textbooks. The price one pays for procrastination!

3) I think I'm ready to head back to the classroom. I know I moan when I have so much homework, but in all honesty, I miss school. Remind me of that in a few weeks when I'm up to my arse in homework!

4) I'm just wondering how I'll be able to devote all that time to homework if and when Married Son and crew move in. Probably have to invest in some soundproof headphones, or head up to either the public library or the campus library. Or both. LOL.

5) Wow, I just realized that my spare time is gonna become extinct again. So much for catching up on past episodes of Star Trek. And ya, that's what I've been doing with my time. I don't know enough trivia to be an active part of the big Star Trek Exhibit at the Detroit Science Center, but hey ... at least when I'm a paying patron and official USS Sinclair Historian (photographer, LOL) of the Exhibit I'll be able to show off a little with some trivia facts. Hehe.

6)  Well, since I'm talking Star Trek ... Ya'll know I'm a card carrying, certified Trekkie. Recently our *ship* voted to decommission from the Starfleet organization, at least temporarily (long story, all related to politics really). The ship will stay intact, in fact we've gained a few new members since we decommissioned. Personally, I will retain my Starfleet membership - I'll just be without a *ship*. I've also joined a new group in the meantime. The "Space Station Bounty". A place for other ships that have also left Starfleet but want to maintain the camaraderie and friendships made while in Starfleet. Should be fun!

7) Speaking of Starfleet ... Single Son not only decided to stay with Starfleet, he's an active member. He has just been promoted to Starfleet Marine Corps Brigadier (next step is Brigadier General and then General). He's also the Regional Director of our Starfleet Region.

8)  Another cool thing I just found out ... as a college student and Starfleet member, I am entitled to a $500 Scholarship per semester. Not too shabby for a Fan Club, eh?

9) I've also decided that somewhere I'm going to find the time to a) attend college, b) open the store this spring and c) attend Starfleet Academy and work toward my degree in Starfleet's Business School. Show  the naysayers that a Ferengi female can make it in the world ... I mean Universe.

10) Ya ... I'm a geek. And proud of it.

Squirrely Song ...

Mississippi Squirrel Revival - Ray Stevens

Some Squirrely Humor ...

There were five houses of religion in a small Texas town:
The Presbyterian Church, the Baptist Church, the Methodist Church , the Catholic Church and the Jewish Synagogue.

Each church and Synagogue was overrun with pesky squirrels.

One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels.   After much prayer and consideration they determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will..

In The Baptist Church the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistery and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week

The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the Squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.

But -- The Catholic Church came up with the best and most effective solution.   They baptized the squirrels and registered them as members of the church.   Now they only see them on Christmas , Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Easter.

Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

Saturday Six ...

1) Or is that Saturday Sicks? Seems I picked up a nasty bug Christmas at my cousin's house. Or so I'm assuming based on the fact that both of my parents, Alien, two aunts, and numerous cousins are all sick with the exact same bug! I feel like crap. Sneezing, coughing, sore throat, chilly (but no fever, go figure), sleepy, and a headache to beat the band. I've managed to sort of hang onto my voice this time around. GOOD!! I don't need another four months of not being able to speak (April thru August 2006 - I'll never forget THAT).

2) Doesn't help my headache that I'm out of caffeine. Need to run to store. Soon. Real soon. While I'm there I need to get cheese (velvetta of course) and tomato soup. Bread and milk, too. Lots of each. Grilled cheese and hot tomato soup sound sooooo good right now. This is the one (and ONLY) time that being single sucks ... no "honey, run up to the store for me, I'm sick as a dog and in bad need of comfort food" ... yah, I could ask one of the kids, but then I just hate giving them my debit card and ... well you parents know how that goes. Suddenly pop, tomato soup, cheese, bread and milk end up costing way more than they should.

3) Oh well, guess I get all bundled up and head out. I have to get a stamp and mail Brother Deere's birthday card today anyway. I've put that off for a few days. His birthday is Monday. I just hope the card gets there on time!

4) There's absolutely nothing good on the boob-tube today, not until 8 PM when COPS is on. Guess I check out hulu.com and see what shows or movies they've got to amuse my sick arse. LOL, speaking of hulu.com ... I introduced Daddy to hulu. Mom's ticked off at me. He's been watching old episodes of most of his favorite shows and barely comes out of his bedroom (where the computer is) now. Too funny! Glad I could find something to entertain him.

5) So that's been my new year so far. Hack. Cough. Hack. Cough. Big fuzzy bathrobe over flannel pjs. Blow nose. Hot showers trying to warm up. Nap after nap. Soup, soup, soup. Fuzzy sockie slippers.

6) On that ... Since Single Son is in the bathroom, where I need to be ... I'm crawling back into bed to warm up, Iz froze. Then make myself presentable after he vacates the only bathroom. Sick or not ... I'm not going out looking like I do now! LOL.
