Just to the dollar store. But I never knew a dollar store could be sooooooo much fun. I so love this dollar store. On top of the usual fare, the owner of this place finds special close-outs and garage sale goodies for his inventory. It makes for a very unique mixture of unexpected surprises.
I just wandered and browsed over some of the typical dollar store junk. Wandered up and down the aisles not really finding anything I wanted or needed ... and there ahead of me ... what do I see but My Pet Monster!! OMG!! The kids had one when they were little! Monster was a near constant companion to Single Son for a lot of years.
Yes, a FULL sized My Pet Monster!! At the dollar store!! Needless to say I grabbed him up in a heartbeat.
My practical side, the one who budgets trips to the dollar store of all places told me to put him back, that I didn't need him! My GRANDMOTHER side said "buy it for the Grandson". Guess which side won out?
I decided to text Married Son to see if it was something Grandson would really like. After all, My Pet Monster scares a lot of kiddies.
Mom: OMG! im @ the dollar store. they have a my pet monster. FULL sized one!
Son: I WANT ONE!!
Mom: they only have one!
Son: Then he's MINE!!
While I'm waiting for his first response I'm still going through the big box of stuffed toys and find something for ME!! A rag doll. She's adorable. And she's handmade. Dammit ... get me out of here and quick before they ALL jump into my cart and blow my dollar store budget for the entire year!
Married Son calls me all excited. "Mom did you get *him*"?
"I sure did, he's in my basket now."
Dolly and My Pet Monster begged me to take their photo!
As soon as they pulled in and Grandson saw My Pet Monster - well, that's all it took. He was all over that Monster!! Married Son is trying to tell him "that's Daddy's Pet Monster, Son" ...
WRONG!! Looks like Grandson adopted Pet Monster! My son is S.O.L. But between you and me, I adopted My Pet Monster for Grandson anyway!!

ReplyDeleteHow funny! The dollar store can be fun...but it usually ends up being more like the TWENTY DOLLAR STORE for me! Remember, I have THREE KIDS and it's so hard to say 'no' when it's only a buck!

Amy, it was well worth the money. I called Married Son this morning. He said that Grandson and Pet Monster were watching tv. They sure do get along well, LOL!

Leann, when I used to take the kids to the dollar stores with me it cost me a lot more than $20!! But now it's just me going alone!! I walked out spending $8 plus tax! LOL! It pays to go dollar store shopping childless, I tell ya! It pays to go any type of shopping childless!

I just need to stay away from the back corner where he keeps his mega dollar deals!

Helen Jo, if I remember my My Pet Monster *history* ... that's exactly why he was so loved as a Monster. He was a good monster, kept his human safe at night, and in the cartoon he loved to pull fun little pranks on his human.

ReplyDeleteRight now, I only have three stuffed squirrels. I doubt they'll ever number what my teddy bears did at the height of my bear collecting days. I had over 250 bears. I've cut that number down to under 50, LOL.

ReplyDeleteWe started collecting..ok I started collecting bears for Emily when she was younger, with her dust mite allergy she couldn't have soft toys, we never got to 250 though hahaha and we have a collection of fairies too. all ceramic they are boxed up for her now I've started a move out of home trunk for her.

When I was in KY IN 1986 (OMG IT'S 22 YEARS OLD) yrs ago, I bought home a squirrel for mum, it's made from uhmm LOL.. It looks like wood but I think it's actually pecan shells or something (I'm prob wrong but that's what my memory is telling me) I'll check it next time I'm over there it will bug me I don't know now.
She still has it sitting in a cabinet.
Yes, 250 can you believe it? It all came from a promise I made to my Grandfather that the first bear you've seen pictures of would never be lonely. When I outgrew carrying him around I started adopting friends to keep him company. Think I went a little overboard? LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've kept only my favorite fifty ... not all are stuffed. Some are wood, plastic, jewelry and a teddy bear tattoo on my shin.
I've got a few other squirrels, too ... small statues and such. I even managed to find a few miniature squirrels for my dollhouse collection ... each dollhouse project I complete has it's own squirrel somewhere on or in it. Hehehe. My fave though is a somewhat realistic looking garden accessory squirrel. When the house was invaded by a squirrel a few years ago I bought the garden one. Hid it in the rafters in the laundry room as a prank on Single Son. His reaction was a hoot! Just about jumped out of his skin!! He's never forgiven me for that one either. LOL!
I'm curious to find out what your mum's squirrel is made of ...

I am too now because pecan shell doesn't sound right its bugging me I know it was something native to the area.. Mums eyes r so bad she wouldn't be able to red the print on the card that's with it. I am going to write a note to remind me for Wednesday when I go there.
Sorry, most of the pranks were in my pre-digital days. I'll have to dig up the old plastic garden squirrel and see if I can prank him again. I had thought about hiding a rubber snake in his van a few times, but the reality that he 1) hates snakes with a passion and 2) carries a loaded handgun to work keeps me from pulling this prank. My luck he'd decide to shoot the damned thing! I don't want bullet holes in that van! LOL!

I've seen cutesy little things made from walnuts, acorns, sea shells, peach pits, rocks, sticks, cow dung (yuck) and human finger nails (double YUCK). I'm soooooo hoping your mum's squirrel wasn't made from either of the last two items. LOL!
Oh I would def forgo the temptation of the snake mom! LOL

If I knew exactly where I bought it,, it might give you an idea. It was def something that was relevant to teh area. When we went to the smoky mountains..and to Cades Cove/Cumberland falls I know I bought things but I cant remember what hahahaha.
