Said I wasn't gonna do it ...

I said I was going to weather the storm. Stick it out until Yahoo! gets their shi* together.

For two days I've been frustrated beyond belief trying to post comments, quick comments and even a blog entry.

So, guess I join the multitudes who are headed over to Multiply ... see what that's all about.

I'll still be around 360, but may as well try Multiply on for size, too.

Anyone else on Multiply, feel free to add me as a friend. I don't wanna lose ya'll, ya know?

Friday Five

What a perfect time to address the "SCARY" side of life with Halloween coming up next week!

This week's theme was provided by Kat . . .

1. What creature scares you the most? (Real or imagined - people are creatures too)
Zombies.

2. Your favorite scary movie of all time . . .
I love the old "B" horror films - the low budget productions. They're the best.

3. The scariest moment in your life . . .
Easy question ... May 5, 2006 ... 6 AM ... when Single Son's ex-girlfriend showed up at the house and tried to kill him. I watched the whole thing, while talking to 911 on the phone.

4. The scariest place you have ever been . . .
There used to be an old abandoned mental hospital just down the street from me - Pontiac State Mental Hospital (PSH) for my local friends. Local lore tells of many hauntings at the site. One popular tale says that as the "Pontiac Mall" was being built across the street from PSH in the early 1960's the construction workers could often hear a woman screaming. It's believed that the screaming came from PSH, from an old tower that was often used to lock up some of the most dangerous mental patients.

One chillly fall night Single Son decided we were going for a drive, but didn't tell me where we were going. We went straight into PSH, just to see the abandoned buildings up close and personal! Scared the bejesus outta me! They've since torn the complex down and built luxury condos on the site. I often wonder if the residents of the condos experience any hauntings ...

5. What scares you?
Where this world is headed - crime, terrorism, ecology, respect, tolerance ... and so on ...

If you would like to participate:
Copy the questions and post your answers to your blog,
Leave a comment on The Friday Five page for that week to let others know your post is up so they can visit your blog.
Fun, easy, and no time limit.

Let's Play !!

Random Thoughts ...

Thursday Ramblings ...

1) Anyone living in Northern Oakland County (MI) beware - my Alien starts driver's education in two weeks. She actually knows how to drive a car, driver's ed is just a formality so she can get her license finally - all nice and legal like. Nice thing about having much older sons, I didn't have to risk life or limb teaching her to drive!

2) I just love classmates.com! Brought my friend Tiger back into my life. Now I've found an old friend who moved away when we were in middle school. She's definitely been on the top of that "whatever happened to?" list!! I wrote her an email yesterday. Hoping to hear from her soon.

3) Speaking of Tiger, lol. We're planning on another get together soon. Not sure where or when yet, as we're trying to compile a list of our old friends we'd like to include in a reunion of sorts.

4) Married Son didn't start that local hauling job after all. A chance encounter with a former coworker of mine who now owns his own *cartage* (hauling) company, and Married Son will now be working for him. This is another long haul job, but "Taz", the owner, is one of those guys who believes in families and family time (unlike the old trucking company!). He'll be home alternating weekends, all holidays, and any special family occasion. The pay is the same as the old company was, but Married Son will no longer have operating expenses that he had with leasing his own vehicle.

5) For years now Alien has been pestering me to get her nose pierced. I kept telling her to think about it, and *if* she really still wanted it, we'd go on her 16th birthday and get her nose pierced. Monday (Oct. 15) was her 16th birthday. After school today we went to the tatttoo parlor where she got her nose pierced!! She was a real trooper, too. She barely cringed!! I've wanted to get my nose pierced since high school ... maybe now I will. Hmmmmmm ...

6) Married Son, DIL and Grandson went with us to get Alien's nose pierced. They didn't want to miss the fun, lol. Before we left DIL was checking out some of my cartoons. She came up with a great idea! A coloring book for Grandson, all with Grandma's cartoons. I think it's a great idea!! I've decided that after cartooning class is over, I'll keep up with a few drawings a week. If nothing else, Grandson will have a hell of a special coloring book.

7) Still working on my midterms. I really need to find a couple of hours where I can concentrate on cleaning the house this weekend. What a study break, eh? Put down the books for a scrub bucket and rags. Fun. Oh well, it's gotta be done again. And something always makes it easier to study in a clean environment.

Ten Thoughts Tuesday

Ten Thoughts Tuesday ...

1) Do I have ten thoughts? I doubt it but let's see how far this goes ...

2) Mid-terms already!! I almost forgot about a research project that I have for mid-terms! Oy!! I've got one week to come up with a five minute speech - with visual aids - on one profession that uses graphic communications (computer graphics). We know what I'm doing this week, LOL.

3) On top of that I have the standard five cartoons to draw. Inanimate objects is this weeks theme. I don't like making inanimate objects come to life, lol. I'd rather cartoon people, that's for sure

4) Speaking of cartoons, I have some faces I did the first week of cartooning class. I'm thinking of adding bodies to them, they'd be great Star Trek characters.

5) Guess we're in for some pretty rainy weather today. Gotta love fall and it's crazy weather.

6) I didn't sleep well last night (nothing new!). Seriously thinking of going back to bed for a few hours. Oh, and with the weather, a thunderstorm would make for a perfect sleep the morning away day.

7) What's up with Flickr? I can't add it to my blog, and heaven knows I've been trying!! The photos I have are public but when I go to add the Flickr stream I get the same message - "you don't have any public photos". Gotta be on Flickr's end, 'cause I doubt it's anything I'm doing!! Geesh!

8) Why is it I always get stuck on numbers nine and ten? This isn't eight thoughts Tuesday, it's ten thoughts. And I get stuck every time!! Could my life have become that dull that I can't think of ten things??

9) Dull beats exciting. Chaotic. Nuts. Whatever you want to call it. I like that things have settled down, that it's not one thing after the other. It's boring around here these days and I'm loving it!! Of course, it makes for some pretty dull blogs. Can't have my cake and eat it, too, can I? LOL!!

10) That's all folks ... no number ten. Grrrrrrr ...

Turn Around ...

I can't believe it's been 16 years already. Sixteen years ... where does the time go?

Seems like just yesterday I was bringing my third baby home from the hospital. The third. Last of a "limited series". My only girl. My princess. No longer a baby. Not a child, either. Soon she'll be a woman.

When I was born my dad loved the song "Turn Around" by Harry Belafonte. It's become a tradition to give a copy of this song to those who have been blessed with the birth of a daughter. It still tugs at my heart to hear it. And as my baby grows up it's even more special to me.

My baby, ever closer to being a woman.

"Turn Around"
By Harry Belafonte

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of the door
Turn around (turn around)
Turn around (turn around)
Turn around and you're a young girl
goin' out of the door

Where are you going my little one, little one
Dirndls and petticoats, where have you gone
Turn around and you're tiny, turn around and you're grown
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own

Turn around and you're a young girl going out of the door
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door

I love you, Boo!!

Saturday Ramblings ...

1) Two days until Alien's 16th birthday! I am not taking this as well as I thought I would. I mean, my baby has grown up. She's always been mature for her age and always been very independent. So why is this suddenly bothering me that she's grown up?

I'm the one who's wanted an empty nest. I joke half the reason I want to move out of state is to get that empty nest - they won't move away from home so I have to move away from them if I want the nest empty. Motherhood, what can I say? Such an emotional roller coaster. Geesh.

2) I noticed the other day I don't cartoon females much. There's a reason for it - men are easier to draw. It's difficult to draw features so they appear softer, more feminine. And boobs, man, those are the worst to draw! Normally it takes only about fifteen minutes to "rough" in a character, another ten or so to do the detail sketching, five minutes to do the line definitions (going over the drawing with magic markers). 45 minutes tops to draw a cartoon from start to finish. Yet, I've worked on one lady drawing for two days now, I can't get her boobs to look right. I'm about ready to give up! *itch is gonna end up flat-chested yet, I swear.

3) I called my Mom last night to thank her again for the gift card, and to tell her about the camera. Ended up they were gone so I left a message. She returned my call today. We talked for a few, I told her how geeked I am about the new camera and how it'll come in handy for the Graphic Communications Club (and so much more).

Then she tells me why she didn't answer the phone last night when I called. She was in the ER giving moral support to her sister, my Aunt Silly. Her hubby, Uncle W. was hit by a car yesterday coming out of the dry cleaners. No one's really sure what happened. He left the building, went to cross the parking lot, and next thing he knows he's laying on the ground in pain. He'll be okay, lots of bumps and bruises. He's an elderly gent, got a pace-maker, I guess they were worried about the trauma of being hit more than anything else.

4) Married Son is home to stay! He starts his new job on Monday, doing local hauling. It's weird, for as bad as Michigan's economy is there's an actual shortage of truck drivers - both local and long-haul. Ten thousand drivers short, to be exact, according to industry publications. He'll never hurt for a job, that's for sure. He's decided to stay local for family reasons.

5) It's a beautiful sunny and cool day today!! I want to be outside, playing with my new camera. But no ... too much homework! It's progressing well, except for that one drawing that's frustrating me.

After that, I really really need to tackle tidying the living areas of the house. They're not too bad, but they could use attention.

6) I'm procrastinating, can you tell?? Okay ... here I go ... back to the drawing board, literally. Ya'll have a great weekend!!

Three ...

Two ...

One ...

So it's now two hours since I blogged the above. I ended up giving up worrying about certain details on the cartoon from Hades (booby lady, LOL) ... see my "My Drawings" album, cartoon number 15.

New Beginnings ...

So why the massive blog cleaning? I thought it was time for a fresh start.

When I first started this MIMom blog on 360 it was with the intentions to privately blog about the ups and downs of living with two often odd adult children, a psycho ex girlfriend (Single Son's then gf), a daughter in law, a newborn grandson, and a teenager who had her mind taken over by Aliens (all under ONE roof!) and just my crazy life in general.

And things change. People change. I've changed.

My primary complaint and his wife have long moved out - in fact, I really can't classify him as a complaint anymore, LOL. The psycho ex is thankfully nothing but a not-so fond memory. The teenager is slowly becoming herself again, no longer completely possessed by an Alien.

I don't have the chaos and confusion I had when I began this blog. I've made new friends and lost friends, too. I've replaced the poisons in my life with positives. Life is good.

I'm no longer that person who started this blog a year and a half ago. I've grown in so many ways. It was time for me to let go of that part of my life, and start with a clean slate.

Friday Five ...

Too funny. Here I go and delete my entire blog (all 883 entries) to start fresh, and today's Friday Five is about the past! I figure it's a great start though. This way I'll never entirely forget where I was ... and ya'll can see exactly how far I've come.

So without further adieu ...

A bit of a Different Friday Five:

What was going on in your life ....

1) 25 years ago: 1982 - I was about to give birth to my second son (Nov. 23). Financially times were good, but I was miserable in the marriage. Young (22), naive and scared, I would find excuses to stay and would justify the horrible treatment I received by the husband.

2) 20 years ago: 1987 - Financially this was the best period of my adult life, but I finally came to my senses knowing that financial security wasn't worth the abuse I received, and I realized that I didn't deserve the way husband treated me. I finally knew the marriage was over, but wouldn't file for divorce until 1988.

3) 15 years ago: 1992 - Remarried and mother to a newborn baby girl. We owned a booth at the weekend flea market and were doing pretty good. Life wasn't too bad. ;)

4) 10 years ago: 1997 - Husband #2 won trip to the Bahamas on a radio call-in contest. I realized during the trip just how incompatible we really were. Marriage failing but I felt I had to stay in it for insurance reasons. At least until I had the needed treatments and was healthy again. Depression set in bad.

5) 5 years ago: 2002 - Finally granted Divorce #2 after a year and a half of battling it out in court. Weighed the most I ever have because of the years of depression. Started a job that would last three years until I was laid off.

bonus: 1 year ago - 2006 - Life has improved in leaps and bounds, although financially it's to be the lowest point of my life. I was accepted at a local college - determined to stick with it and finally get that degree I'd put off for almost three decades. Although I had (have) health problems and no insurance or job, my general outlook about life has vastly improved over the decades.

Have Fun and Let's PLAY !!
