Mother's Day and I haven't recieved so much as a phone call. I'm not upset, really. Single Son went to work after the bowl-a-thon and worked until this morning, so he's been sleeping all day. He works midnights tonight and besides we spent yesterday together at the Alien Bowl-a-thon and dinner that he bought afterwards. Alien is at her father's house. My choice. She'd rather work on her car this weekend. It's been raining all day. I wonder if she got any work done on the car. LOL. Don't know what Married Son, DIL and Grandson are up to. I did get a short "Happy Mom's Day" email from DIL yesterday, though.
I did call my Mom today. Wished her a Happy Mother's Day. We talked for a few minutes. I apologized for being broke and not getting her something. She laughed, saying the typical "I don't want or need anything. And anyway, Grandson's birthday party is this weekend, spend your money on him." Riiiight. But then, that's what I say to my kids, too, that I don't want or need anything. Nothing going on at Mom's house. No dinner plans, just a quiet night of taking over the remote control from Dad. Yup, that's his Mother's Day gift to Mom. She picks the tv shows for the evening.
And I'm actually enjoying the quiet around here. No one to interupt me. No one whining that it's raining out and there's nothing to do. No one bugging me to turn over my computer to them. I can photoshop all I want, or play the pirate computer game I've become somewhat addicted to these last few weeks.
Hoping all my Mom friends are spending this Mother's Day doing exactly what they want!!
I know you're taking the high road....but I'm not going to - Shame on Alien if she doesn't at least manage to call you...and I expect nothing less than a big hug from single son once he wakes up.

Oldest son went to Chicago last weekend and on his own he bought my favorite candy Fannie May (none by my house) I was impressed he thought about it a whole week ahead. It is yummy

Em ... thanks!! I'm sort of suspecting (or hoping) that Alien may pull what she did on me last Mother's Day, LOL ... act like she forgot but when she got home from Bubba's she sprang a nice card and a small gift on me.

The game is called "Tradewinds 2". It's sort of a teen's game ... something right up my alley, LOL! It's got enough strategy and action to keep me happy without burning me out the way most strategy games do. I got it at Big Lots for like five bucks. Definitely got my money's worth. LOL ...

ReplyDeleteExcellent job on the bowling pins and ball! I read that in part one alien blog and I thought yup I could imagine doing that happily with the princess at times.
Like Cass sometimes the greates gifts I have had is when they all leave me alone and I get some space. You would think Bubba would have told Alien to give you a call at least... but I am experienced in alien/princess behaviours too. Oh and when they got told by their dad, it didnt mean much its better when they remember so scratch the bubba comment LOL.
I think that's universal for moms to say and think that way, my mom has said the same thing and so have I. Looks like you had fun anyway with alien and bowling on photoshop anyway LOL. Hugs!!

ReplyDeleteQuiet is always number one on my wish list!! Alien arrived home a bit ago and as I'm sitting here just now wanted to take over my computer. Oh, and still no Happy Mother's Day out of her ... oops ... as I typed that she said "oh by the way, Mom, Happy Mother's Day". Better late than never, eh? LOL!
And to have her father buy me a gift or a card for any holiday - or simply remind her to call me when she's with him for holidays - forget it. He's one of the most inconsiderate clods there is, hasn't changed since we were married. I didn't expect him to change after divorce, LOL!
I'm beginning to see that the "don't fret about a gift for me" really is a universal mom thing. Now if I could get mine to stop guilting me six months later about "and you never bothered to get me a card or call" ... ummmmm, I sure did call ... lol. Aging, it's not for the weak!

You know, at that age - even remembering to say Happy Mothers Day is a small victory - congratulations - but I hope you didn't give up your computer for her ;). And I know exactly what you mean about the aging and memory stuff - my dad.....well lets just say I've gone to sending backup emails as proof of my visits on important occasions.

Em, I'd love to be able to send back up emails to Mom as reminders *IF* she even knew how to use email. She's so computer illiterate it's funny. She'll call me and ask me to look something up online, but won't even attempt it herself! I doubt she even knows how to turn a computer on. And Dad won't get involved so sending him any documentation is out. So that leaves follow up phone calls. Those don't work!! Even a few days later she'll say she never said (or heard) something!

Helen, that'd be my mom - the Queen of Guilt. My first boyfriend was Jewish. He'd shake his head and say "your mom should be a jew, Lise, she'd teach a few of the Jewish mothers I know how to really guilt someone". I was only 15 when he and I dated. She's had 33 years to perfect her *art*.

Alien Bowling!! Awww, I wish I knew how to pull something like that off. Could you see it?? Write a program that allowed the user to upload the photos of their choice and customize it so the bowling ball and pins would be of their Aliens? OMG!! Too cool!

Helen, just today I was wondering what I did with a bowling pin that Bubba had while we were married. Probably in the dumpster. Drats. To have decoupaged that with all things Alien and then set it out so she could see it!! LOL!
