1) My teddy bear. I was only about six months old in this picture. The brown teddy bear was to be my constant companion through-out my childhood. He accompanied me on vacations, even as a teenager. The day I moved from my parents house into my own apartment he was there. I'm 48 now and he still holds an honored place in my home. Granted his fur has long worn away and he is thread-bare in places. But he'll always be my best bear-bud.
2) Tearful Cheerful Baby. I got this dolly around the time my little brother was born. I could feed my dolly, take care of *her*, be her mommy - all without the supervision that was needed when I was playing "mommy" to my little brother.
3) Troll Dolls. I loved these dolls. I had a lot of them, and a Troll house for them to live in. In fact, I've recently taken up collecting these dolls again!
4) Zoolery Dolls. These dolls were about 1/4 of an inch tall. They came in lockets that looked like cages that you could wear. I want to start collecting them again, but they're so rare they bring in about $100 each on eBay! That's just a little too rich for *my* blood! LOL!
And last, but not least ...
5) Barbie. I loved Barbie Dolls!! Besides my dolls and all of their clothes I also had the Barbie Townhouse, Boutique, Cafe, Camper and Airplane.
There are other toys that I played with, too. But since this is a Friday FIVE I can only list five. Right? LOL! But dolls were definitely my faves!! Yes, I loved dolls. Still do!!
I love dolls too. Especially Barbies. And of course I love your teddy. :-)
ReplyDeleteDi, I still have most of my Barbie Dolls and clothing in storage at my parents house. There's a box full of Little Kiddles, too. Remember those? LOL. Tearful Cheerful and her little house are still around, too.

I remember the troll dolls, dont think I had one but I remember playing with them at some point. Oh and I have a collection of teddy bears now as an adult..LOL I love the applause bears as they are so soft.

buggal, My mom did that, too!! While she kept the dolls and all their clothing and accessories, she gave away all my Barbie extras - like my houses and stores, the camper and airplane. It took me a long time to forgive her since she did keep all of the stuff from my brother's GI Joe collections - even the "Command Station" and Assualt vehicle they had!.
Tumbleweed, yeah, we're showing our ages here!! LOL. I loved those pencil toppers. So did my cat - she kept taking my pencils when I wasn't looking! I'd find the pencil later with the Troll topper missing!

Heathercheryl, I played with Barbies until the summer before I started high school. Talk about someone who didn't want to grow up. Guess that's why I still buy dolls now, eh?
Sharksfan. They've gone through a few popularity cycles out here in Hockeytown. About every ten years or so you see Trolls regaining popularity for a while.
Tish, I didn't stop carrying Ted E Bear around until ... well ... when I got too old to openly carry him I'd stuff him in my purse, suitcases, book bags or whatever. I think I was in high school before he demanded retirement status.

Helen Jane, What's amazing is that Ted E. Bear hasn't totally fallen apart. He's got a lot of mileage on him. Don't temp me or I may just bring him to Chicago!! I still have the kids favorite stuffed buddies, too. Alien never really was a dolly kid, too. She had one she loved, but for the most part never had interest in dollies.
patteacakes, that's cool that you had well dressed Trolls!!! About the only wardrobe mine ever had were felt jackets. Even a troll deserved a cover-up during a cold Michigan winter.
pestep, LOL! My baby brother thought they were creepy, too. Maybe that's why I loved 'em? He hated them, it was safe that he'd leave them alone!!
By the way ... did you know that in Michigan *da yoopers* (people that live in the Upper Peninsula) call us Lower Peninsula residents *Trolls*? It's 'cause we live UNDER DA BRIDGE - The Mackinaw Bridge that is.

ReplyDeleteAll of my original Trolls disappeared, too. I'm suspecting they met with one of Mom's *toss it* frenzies. The Trolls I have now are all eBay or garage/rummage sale trolls.

ReplyDeleteDolls weren't my thing, but for some reason, I did love the Troll Dolls. I would always have one and then when it was lost or worn out, I would get another one. I think it was because playing with a Troll Doll made you think of the story of the little goat wanting to go over the bridge but he was afraid of the Troll underneath. I did have a Barbie and my Mom made tons of clothes for her but it was because my best friend was just crazy about Barbie and she wanted me to have one too. Thanks for sharing.
