Bummed ...

First they canceled the class reunion ... then tonight I get an email from Tiger saying that something unavoidable has come up and he has to cancel our "going away dinner" on Saturday. I have a sneaking suspicion I know *who* that unavoidable something is ... Oh well. Guess I just don't say goodbye to him before he moves away.

Thought for a while that maybe I'll go up to the bar where a few of my classmates are going to meet.  But, the people who will be there aren't people I've even thought about since graduation. I decided that the money spend on a drink or two and a meal could be better spent elsewhere. Like maybe taking Alien up to Port Huron for a day next week. Do something fun. And with the price of gas falling, it's looking even better for a day trip.

  1. Bummer! The trip with Alien sounds like fun though! I'd be opting for that!!

  2. Helen, seems to be the way things go in my life ... make plans and they end up falling through. Oh well, think I'd be used to it by now, eh? LOL.

  4. Go up to the bar....who said you have to have a meal there (eat before you get there). Maybe you haven't thought about those people since graduation - but what do you have to lose? Sides, with a bit of luck someone will be doing well and buying drinks for his/her classmates so all it would cost you is the gas.

If you don't go - just be sure it's not because you don't want to do this alone......sometimes I talk myself out of things because they are out of my usual comfort zone - and I almost always regret that later.

  5. Glenda, I hear Sunday is supposed to be awesome weather. Too bad I won't have Alien back from her dad's until late Sunday night.

I just got off the phone with my mom. She offered me use of her van for the day, and a full tank of gas to boot. Hehe. Only problem is now that I have to work around her schedule - so it'll be Wednesday or Thursday before we can go. But hey, I'm not complaining! I won't have to worry about the drive and if the next mile will be the mile my car dies for sure ... LOL. I can't wait until Single Son gets his new car and I take over his van - no more worrying about the car!

  6. Em, I thought about going ... still haven't figured out for sure if I'll go or not. I'm not worried about the cost of gas, the bar is less than five miles away. Thought about eating before I left, but they're all ordering dinner, I'd hate to be the only one there *not* dining. LOL. Even thought about showing up fashionably late to avoid the dinner issue.

Something like this isn't out of my comfort zone ... so going to it alone wouldn't be an issue for me. Quite honestly, if I do decide to go, I'd prefer to go alone. This way I wouldn't have someone (like Tiger, a spouse or other guest) to worry about if s/he's bored or drinks too much or just wants to go when I'm not ready to go yet, LOL.

I dunno. Maybe I'll go ... about an hour after the event is scheduled for (to avoid dinner) and stay for a little bit. One drink can't kill me or my wallet.

  7. I like that idea - making an appearance late to avoid the whole dinner thing.....have I told you lately that you are brilliant.

  8. Em ... aw, shucks thanks. But I've decided to not go after all. I'm not big on drinking ... and the list of people I have seen who will be at the bar just aren't people I really care to see after 30 years. Not a damned one of 'em. Half of which I don't even remember anyway, LOL. Decided instead that I'll head up to the store shortly, grab a bag of chips (a rare treat these days) and then pick through Single Son's movies, find something I haven't seen yet. Coax a cat or three onto the couch with me (shouldn't be hard to do either). I might even share some of my bag of chips with them.

Beats having a drink with a bunch of folks I have no interest in. Now, had there been a name or two on that list that I associated with in high school I'd be looking through my closet lamenting the fact that I have *nothing* to wear! LOL!
